Thanks for posting...on Atorvastatin thankfully and doing everything to keep my LDL low as I can, because based on the findings on bempedoic acid, I believe that a low LDL helps...

Thanks. I’m on rosuvastatin and metformin

I guess I need to switch from simivastin

Uggh. I am on low-dose simvastatin too and there are many publications suggesting it is anti-proliferative in PCa. I thought the more important distinction was lipophilic vs. hydrophylic, but apparently not according the above publication. Atorvastatin, lovastatin, and simvastatin are lipophilic, whereas pravastatin, rosuvastatin (Crestor - Dr. Myers' choice), and fluvastatin are more hydrophilic.

I also read a pub suggesting that low-dose statin increases PCa aggressiveness (primarily related to obesity if I understood correctly). That made my skin crawl.

I always look at this and ask - what are we doing that is helpful? What are we doing that could be harmful? What are we not doing that could be helpful? And, of course, what are we not doing that we certainly don't want to do?

I ask myself the same questions....for me, my next big addition is adding daily broccoli sprouts for a big blast of sulforophane --cujoe wrote quite the article a while back on the benefits of the sprouts, but that's for later in the month...

I enjoy both ! Eat broccoli daily in salads. Brussels sprouts less often because they need to be cooked and I’m lazy.

You're supposed to cook brussels sprouts?..... No wonder I don't like them.

Lol! It’s easy to buy the small bags and steam them in micro or if you’re a gourmet fry them in olive oil and garlic after trimming them and cutting in half. Delicious and healthy!!!

Thanks I'll try that.... sounds much more tastier than eating them raw. Whew...

broccoli sprouts don't need to be cooked. Who told you that?

Rosuvastatin for me, Snuffy Myers switched me to it from another statin around 4 years ago. Also taking metformin per Snuffy.

The irony is that only last year, another study, also from Taiwan, reported that:

"Analysis of the cumulative defined daily dose (DDD) indicated that patients who were prescribed simvastatin ≥ 180 DDD had a dramatically decreased risk of death from PCa (adjusted HR = 0.63 ..."

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/296...

The new paper states that:

"only atorvastatin, pravastatin and rosuvastatin were associated with improved survival in advanced PC patients receiving ADT"

meaning that there was no survival benefit at all for simvastatin. At least for men on ADT.

I'm hoping for another survival study - preferrably not from Taiwan.

Very strange. Different country?

No - both studies are from Taiwan. -Patrick

Good catch but still contradictory?

And also strange that it is not related to lipophibic statins in this study.

My lipid profile is great

Ironic indeed. I don't think anyone needs to be switching statins based on a publication or two, but it certainly illustrates the ambiguities of research and conclusions.

Maybe I will just try broccoli sprouts and coffee and see how well I do. Trial of one.

what is the 180 related to? The number of daily doses, or 180 mg daily?

So which one is the best statin??? I must take a statin because of an aneurysm.

All I know is rosuvastatin, generic Crestor , lowered my C better than any others and it’s recommended by Dr Meyers.

I switched from Simvastatin to Rosuvastatin because of the huge side effects. Rosuvastatin is stronger in lower LDL, with no direct action on the Liver. I believe any statin is benificial and adding dipyridamole may augment it's anticancer effects (this combination may have some extra side effect)

GeorgeGlass profile image
GeorgeGlass in reply to Ralph1966

which statin do you use? and what strength?

Ralph1966 profile image

Rosuvastatin 5 mg daily.

good on ya!

it doesn't show any % increases per statin, and it doesn't report lipid level averages. Another worthless report, other than to just say to take some kind of statin.
