I had a massive stroke in 2009 and then two heart attacks in 2013 and 2014. I was put onto statins. Three years ago the statin I was taking was changed by my doctor. He prescribed Ezetrol. Unfortunately my medical aid would not pay for this medicine and so over and above my monthly medical aid contribution which I consider to be excessive I was forced to pay for Ezetrol out of my pocket. Eventually I could not afford to pay for Ezetrol and so stopped taking it. I have been monitoring my cholesterol level. Last month the level was 5.5 but this month it has gone up to 6 which the sister at Dischem Pharmacy where I was having it checked said that level was too high and I needed to go back on statins as I risked having another heart attack if I did not. Please could you advise me.

OK, Statin is given as primary and secondary medication. Primary is to control cholesterol and lipids. Secondary is after a procedure. Did you have any stent?
You would have had statins and other medication in 2009,2013 and 2014.
You need to discuss this with your GP or doctor to understand the necessary medication
