ITP – Need more options
My new goal is to get the
splenectomy
. Next month I plan to travel to the UK to receive the spleen scan. My Dr doesn't seem to think the
splenectomy
will work for me but I'm going to get the scan done anyway. Im nervous that I'm running out of options.

Gastric varices and flying?
Hello again, I'm pleased to report that after my husband was transferred to St Thomas' hospital, they managed to stabilise his bleeding varices and ruled out the idea of a
splenectomy
. He's been on ruxilitinib for about 2 months now and this seems to be working well.

Our Dog has Chronic ITP
The vets want her platelets to be at 60,000 prior to the
splenectomy
. We are just at a loss as to what to do to save our angel. We are open to any advice or suggestions of treatment.

ITP recurred after five years: 2nd round of Rituximab Or Homeopath Or Anything else??
She is advising to repeat the same Rituximab course and is saying there's no need of
Splenectomy
. I am kind of confused though and have couple of queries: #1 Can we try homeopathic treatment which would go parallel with our regular Allopathic treatment?

Splenectomy options
His haemo consultant thinks he should try the ruxolitinib first, but the gastro guy doesn't think he has that long before his varices rupture and they have no choice but to do an emergency

Blood in urine and itp
I have been an itp sufferer for 26 years, I had a
splenectomy
but for the last year my count fluctuates between 40 -70. I have had symptoms of a urine infection for about a month but there is no infection and I am going for tests at urology clinic in a few days time.

Use them and lose them: finding alternatives to antibiotics to preserve their usefulness
We may also need to have prophylactic antibiotics prior to surgery, dental work or during treatment and if we've had a
splenectomy
, we need to stay on them for life. Hence antibiotic resistance is a much more serious concern to us than is the case for the general public.

Feeling confused and overwhelmed......or should I say 'sorry for my self'
I've been booked in with nuclear medicine to look at the behaviour of my platelets - presumably to see whether a
splenectomy
could be an option for me.

Diet has been key
My husband was diagnosed with itp about 4.5 years ago and was told steroids would be needed if platelets dropped further and possible
splenectomy
. He was monitored regularly and he tried all sorts including papaya leaf, alkaline diet etc to try to remedy.

ITP since May this year. Currently on Revolade
My doctors started pushing for a
splenectomy
but I told them I wasn't interested at this stage, however I would like to try Revolade. They agreed to this and I am now on day 5. My count this morning was 30 which is more than double last weeks count.

Interferon monotherapy effective in patients with HCV thalassemia major
Negative predictors for SVR after the first round of treatment were
splenectomy
(P = .01) and a fibrosis grade greater than or equal to 4 (P < .05). After multiple rounds of treatment,
splenectomy
(P < .05) and those aged older than18 years were negative predictors for SVR (P < .02).

Splenectomy
My doctor says that it is not recommended taking prednisone for a long time, and since 7 months have passed it's time for
Splenectomy
. I feel it's too early. What do you think? Is it really bad taking prednisone for lifetime? Has anyone succeeded controlling ITP by chaning the diet? Thanks
