Have you underwent splenctomy? Each time taking it that is you said 4times.each time you took how many does for how many months?

in reply toIneedachange

Yes had my splenectomy in 2000 wish I hadnt. Each dose of rituxin is given weekly ( it takes a full day to ad inister to me) for 4 weeks my first round was also given with dexamethasone subsequent doses were considered maintenance and not as hig a dose. My first round gave me nearly 3 years remission 2nd gave me 3.2 years 3rd gave me 3.5 and I had my last dose in October 2014 and am still in remission

I was in a similar situation several years ago. The drug book lists the side effects of steroids and I had them all! I sympathize with your situation. I encourage you to preserver. Doctors seem to suggest trying steroids first. Treatments like IVIG can help in conjunction with steroids but that can be dangerous and have side effects. Sorry to say I guess all possible treatments can have side effects. I eventually found a treatment that works for me. Hope you can find a similarly helpful treatment soon. I have been drug free for several years now.

So how did get reveal of these medication? Now what is your platelets count? Now are you using any medicine?

RobertSp profile image
RobertSp in reply toIneedachange

I am drug free at the moment and have been for about 7 years. My platelet counts stays above 30 and at that level I do not need medication. Aparently my platelets are more active than usual so fewer are required. There is a study published on the internet of all the drugs for ITP and their rate of effectiveness. (I suggest you try a Google search.) Each drug seems to work for some people but not all people.

What's her count? Some of us on here have ITP at fairly low counts, and we don't take medication at all.

scaryteacher in reply toIneedachange

I know Sailor on here has no meds and has a count of about 10k. Does the count drop if she stops taking the steroids?

Ineedachange profile image
Ineedachange in reply toscaryteacher

Yeah dropping. That is the actual problem

scaryteacher profile image
scaryteacher in reply toIneedachange

It isn't always, that's why I asked.

Is it a big drop when she stops, or the usual fluctuations? Mine can be <19k, and the docs send me off to A&E, where 4 hours later, they will be 29k.

I don't think anything other than the usual meds will help. If it did, we would all be doing it.

Ineedachange profile image
Ineedachange in reply toscaryteacher

If we are stopping steroid count fasting to 3k

I dont know of any natural remedies that help. I know people with ITP who have very strict diets, that do all sorts of "alternative" things, yoga, tai chi etc. While I think it can help mental health I dont see that it has helped their ITP.

I take no medicine for RA as it affects my platelets. Please see a good homeopath in your place. I don't know any doc in your place.

Padram profile image
Padram in reply topalash199

Hi palash199, Dr. Bhaskar is a homeopath. He will not prescribe ayurvedic drugs. Caripill was suggested by my GP. Caripill is generally used in patients with dengue. It is supposed to be taken only for 5 days. I am taking caripill under the supervision of my GP. Long term use without doctor's supervision is not correct. Please consult a good doctor. I stop caripill on and off, as per my GP's direction. No medicine is completely safe. So you can't self prescribe. Please see a homeopath in your city first.

palash199 profile image
palash199 in reply toPadram

Hi padma this word GP I do not understand.

Padram profile image
Padram in reply topalash199

Hi,palash, it means General Practitioner. Your family doctor, or some doctor you regularly consult, can also prescribe this medicine. But I would sincerely advice you to consult some homeopath. There are so many in your city. DON'T SELF MEDICATE.

Padram profile image
Padram in reply topalash199

And as for diet, nothing actually increases the count. ITP patients should take healthy diet, with fruits and vegetables. But there is no diet that will increase platelet. At least for me, nothing helped.

palash199 profile image
palash199 in reply toPadram

Hi padma tell me this time you can take any allopathy drug. Why do not take any homeo med for your itp?

Padram profile image
Padram in reply topalash199

Hi palash, Caripill is a herbal drug. There is no chemical in that tablet. Only papaya leaf powder. I am not taking Homeo medicine now, from February 2016, because it doesn't help my Rheumatoid Arthritis ( RA). If I take medicine for platelet, my RA factor increases, and if I take Homeo medicine for RA, my platelet comes down. Allopathy drugs don't suit my 2 Auto immune disorders. My condition is complicated. Hope you got your answer. Since I can't take any medicine for RA, I have started trying to control RA by drinking vegetable juice, fruit juice, soups. I have stopped all other food for almost a month now. My joint pains have gone now. This too I am doing only under the supervision of my homeopath. But for ITP, there is no food that increases platelet. So I take Caripill which is made from papaya leaf.

My doctor is in Bangalore. I get my meds from there. I have stopped allopathy. My haematologist did not want me to try alternate medical treatment . So I stopped seeing him. It took some time to stabilise, but I am good now. ITP has no cure. We can only hope to manage this disorder. I feel very sorry for your mother. But don't lose hope. Do you live in Hyderabad? Dr. Bhaskar was suggested by my doctor when she was unavailable for some time. I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis . Dr. Bhaskar gave me some wonderful suggestions, and I am almost pain free without any allopathy drugs. Please do contact him.

All the best. Please feel free to ask me for any help

Hello carmonacavite, at present I take CARIPILL tablets. It is made from papaya leaf extract. I also take homeo meds, as my RA has also to be managed. To improve my energy , I also take Ashwagandha tablet once a day. I have been following this regimen for a month now, and my count is steady at 1,50,000. Also my ESR, CRP and RA Factor have decreased. So I think I am on the right track.still a long way to go, but I am able to do so much now. The fatigue has almost disappeared. No side effects whatsoever. As for diet, I am vegetarian . Take a lot of fruits. Drink veg juices, buttermilk. Use sesame oil a lot. Hope this is helpful.

I don't have the Doctor's address. I shall give you the phone number of his clinic. I am taking both papaya leaf extract and homeo meds. If I take only one, my count drops . I do not know the name of the medicine my homeo doctor gives. But it was her medicine that stopped my bleeding and increased my count. My problem is complicated because of Rheumatoid Arthritis .

Dr. Bhaskar's phone number : 040 27760670.
