I was already on a low sodium diet. It was suggested to me that I try removing as much animal protein out of my diet as possible. When I made this change, I started feeling better within two weeks. (I know that doesn’t happen with everyone.)

Specifically, it is primarily the heart reacting to the inappropriate flow of sodium, calcium and potassium ions caused by abnormal stimulus either by the vagus/sympathetic/parasympathetic nerves or electrolyte imbalance (Sodium, Calcium, Potassium, Magnesium, Iron).

Bloods came back ok potassium, bilirubin sodium etc. Out of hours doctor had been called previously so he still came at 6.30!

In particular, you may find it more comfortable to use products free from sodium lauryl sulphate, a foaming agent which can be irritating if there’s soreness or ulcers in the mouth.

Cut way back on sodium (less than 2000mg a day), watching potassium, phosphorus and protein. Met with a renal dietitian. Cut WAY back on booze, cut animal protein down to about once or twice a week (red meat once a month) and only a small amount then and started taking CBD.

This was despite making sure I was drinking lots, keeping sodium levels good etc. Increased T3 by 5mcg and a few days later I’m improved. However. In the past I have felt great - a real spring in my step, motivation great, no symptoms at all.

My questions for those of you that are not on a Stage 5 Renal Diet are: how much water do you drink or TRY to drink on a daily basis, and what is the maximum amount of sodium you allow yourself? I have been using My Fitness Pal for years, does anyone have a site they like better?

I think it is the medicines that is causing him so much problem - the phosphate binder, Sodium Bicarbonate, blood pressure medications, vitamins, supplements. I really don't know. It's time to evaluate his medications. We also plan to do his H.Pylori test- stool. Lets see what is the outcome.

My disorder causes me to lose potassium, sodium & to have low sugar reactions when it's fairly low. That leaves me jittery and nervous and downright anxious. I'm working on it right now but, some kind words and some sympathy would be appreciated. Thanks, JEG325

My hellish year with ibs is slowlllly starting to get a bit better by a very volatile but 'dry' diet. I have been taking one imodium a week at 8am which amazingly, along with small amounts of veg and fruit and most carbs has made me very comfortable. Its only after a week my intestines seem to go back

Now I track my sodium intake every day, staying around 2000 mg daily and continue my usual exercise. It seems to be working.

Even the Exercise and Health Junkies will admit they were sometimes beaten in Mind as well as Body over the years by getting Dehydrated , losing Sodium or not getting their Nutrition right. Well before PMR/ GCA had a bite!

I am eating very clean, low sodium, low protein and low carbs. I am aware of rebound coming off them, I am also aware I have been on them for 5 years and it might take a while for my kidneys to adjust.
