My hellish year with ibs is slowlllly starting to get a bit better by a very volatile but 'dry' diet. I have been taking one imodium a week at 8am which amazingly, along with small amounts of veg and fruit and most carbs has made me very comfortable. Its only after a week my intestines seem to go back to their games of gas, cramps and general upset. I haven't had any intestinal noise for a good week but today I had excruciating cramps which lead to a stool which was both hard and loose. The pain has more or less subsided but my intestines are playing washing machine - my dad's do this constantly and he doesn't have IBS so is it normal? Or how often do yours make noise?

Intestinal noise
Sometimes, we become too in tune with our intestines, and notice just a bit too much. I think everyone makes noises, just some are slightly more noisy than others. I find that no fizzy drinks, no alcohol, no peanuts, no Brussel sprouts, no sweetcorn nor baked beans manages to keep me fairly D free.
Thanks so much - I'm starving but don't want the spasms or d* to start... Ugh. I'd imodium safe to take once a week?
I would honestly eat, your stomach could be making more noise because you're hungry. The point you make about eating fruits, veg and carbs certainly won't help depending on what those fruits, veggies and carbs are.
Some fruits and veggies are a definite no no when it comes to gas and diarrhoea. Also some carbs are high in bad sugars, also a no no with what you describe.
Look into the fodmap diet under the guidance of a dietitian or nutritionist. But also discuss this with your GP. He may be able to point you in the right direction.
I would definitely agree with eating enough to keep your stomach, eating too little can cause noise. A doctor told my mother this years ago after a bout 'madam, you need to start eating,' he said and that was the solution.
An infusion of camomile with some aniseed just before bed has done wonders for me for gas, it has greatly reduced
Think I have chamomile somewhere thank you!! It could well be hunger but I thought that was more stomach than intestine noise, thanks guys
