Born with one functioning kidney, I'm a 58 year old male. In January my gfr was down to 38 and creat up to 1.86. So my PCP referred me to a nephrologist for the first time.

Since January, I've educated myself on how much sodium I was consuming without realizing it. So now my blood test results last week were the same as they were in June - gfr 52 now, 51 in June, creat 1.38 now, 1.37 in June. Now I track my sodium intake every day, staying around 2000 mg daily and continue my usual exercise. It seems to be working.

Hi Kungfudude,

Good for you. Sodium is just one of the many components of things we eat we need to watch for.

Yes. Very little red meat now and moderate potassium too. Some stuff I miss, some I don't. And I'm still 12 lbs lighter from the diet change.

I have been experimenting with making my own. I use coconut aminos instead of soy.

Bassetmommer,

I read this in one of your earlier posts, and we have started using coconut amino as well. Thank for the great suggestion.

What is the purpose of the coconut amino’s?

Adds flavor and coloring similar to soy but without the salt.
