Glaucoma and Cataract Surgery
Hi everyone, I know this is such a helpful forum and just wondered about other people’s experience of having cataract surgery when also having Glaucoma (I have open angle glaucoma)? I had my right cataract removed last week and my left this week and had lenses put in for my extremely bad near sightedness

Landmark study shows simple salt swap could prevent millions of deaths each year
Replacing table salt with a reduced-sodium, added-potassium ‘salt substitute’ significantly reduces rates of stroke, heart attack and death, according to the results of one of the largest dietary intervention studies ever conducted. Presented at a ‘hotline session’ at the European Society of Cardiology

New GP
Recently moved and saw a new GP yesterday. He was bewildered that I had been having headaches, blurred and double vision for months before and following my pmr diagnosis and no one thought a biopsy was urgently needed. Referred me to a surgeon to rule out GCA. Also referred to a new rheumy, so feeling

Twirling "fans" in periphery
Does anyone experience pulsating lights (dim) in their peripheral vision? Similar to a twirling fan? I first experience this following cataract and vitreous replacement surgery last year. It disappeared shortly after, but has returned recently . It is mostly in my lower vision and I notice it more

Sodium Butyrate: Neuroprotective effects of short-chain fatty acids in MPTP induced mice model of Parkinson's disease 2021
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33905875/ Gut microbial metabolites, SCFAs, were related with the occurrence and development of Parkinson's disease (PD). But the effects of different short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) on PD and involving mechanisms are still undefined. In this study we evaluate the effects

IBS-D
Does anyone else with IBS-D go very often? For me I pass stools at most 4 times a day, they can range between loose and easy to pass to diarrhoea. Does anyone take anything to help the IBS-D? I’m only 21 and it’s taking over my life. Spoken to my doctor this morning and they have no clue what’s going

Glaucoma - Intractable eye pain
My daughter Natasha has closed angle glaucoma with apparently Pigmentary Dispersion Syndrome. She has had one operation to reduce the ciliary bodies because her intraocular pressures were getting progressively higher. This worked very well, and pressures are now well controlled. She takes her eye drops

Success with IOPs of 6-8 with a trabeculectomy?
I have have normal tension glaucoma brought about from Lasik surgery which gave me very thin corneas. Though my IOPs range from 10-15, I would need an IOP as low as possible, however, I am frightened of severe hypotony. I live in the U.S. and the surgeons don't go into detail as much as those in

Superior Limbic Keratoconjunctivitis
Went to see my Consultant Ophthalmologist today (great chap who sorted my floaters, which were the size of icebergs, a couple of years ago and said that I would need cataracts sorted sooner or later so elected to do them at the same time as the floaters and all on the NHS – perfect) as I have some discomfort

COLLAGEN POWDER
Hi I have SLE and have been trying to reduce my MTX and prednisolone doses, with some success. Our local health food store was suggesting a collagen supplement. Has anyone heard of adding collagen powder to smoothies or sprinkling on cereal as an aid to building connective tissue? I bought some anyway

About 'good' oils for NASH and NAFLD
I haven't been officially diagnosed, but believe this is my issue and has been for some time. I am going to overhaul diet and do what I can.... but I have a question about oils. I know all veg canola etc must be avoided. High quality olive oil is on your list to take daily. What about coconut oil

Dry eye gel for night time
After having had an awful week with my right eye, managed to get an appointment yesterday at the eye clinic, but only with a senior nurse. After lots of tests and a scan, she seems to think there isn't anything to worry about. The reflections around the eye that I have been experiencing, particularly

Hello, In a bid to stop me going into Afib my electrophysiologist has stopped my very low dose of bisop for what I think says Diltiazen ER and flecainide 100mg bd. I was previously told by my cardiologist I should not take flecainide due to my LBBB. I did mention this to the EP, who said my heart function
