Flecainide with Afib and LBBB?

Hello,

In a bid to stop me going into Afib my electrophysiologist has stopped my very low dose of bisop for what I think says Diltiazen ER and flecainide 100mg bd.

I was previously told by my cardiologist I should not take flecainide due to my LBBB.

I did mention this to the EP, who said my heart function is good.

Is anyone else with Afib and LBBB on flecainide?

Flecanide is only for those with no heart issues- other than afib- so that’s why your cardiologist said that. Think you need more medical advice.

Yes, I think my cardiologist thought LBBB precluded the use of Flecainide. Have now got an appointment to see him this Friday.

I have AF and LBBB. I was also given Flecanide by the EP for about a year before my ablation. No issues whatsoever. He said it was fine to prescribe as though I had the LBBB my heart was structurally normal. I am sure this is why you have been given it but I would advise if you are concerned email your EP and ask. Better to ask than worry.

Thank you that’s most helpful!

I have LBBB and was told that I could not have Flecainide.

Thanks. Seems my cardiologist is not alone in his thinking then!

Go with the medic you trust. AF is so individual the medics find there is no one answer. My cardio prescribed Flecainide 100mgs bd on its own, so far he's been right.

Thanks for responding!

I was prescribed Flecanide by my cardiologist for a few years with known LBBB and PAF. No issues apart from AF having a mind of it's own and ignoring anything that was thrown at :-)

That’s reassuring, thanks!

I have an otherwise healthy heart but with mild LBBB, too. Looking at the literature online, I cannot find any reference to flecainide being contraindicated in patients with LBBB (only RBBB and structural heart problems).

As an aside, I was told that I couldn't take flecainide or sotalol, only amiodarone, but I seem to recall that being for other reasons (prolonged QRS, maybe - I don't recall).

I would phone your GP for advice.

Steve

Excuse my ignorance but what is LBBB?

Left bundle branch block. I’ve had it for years and it registers on every 12 lead ECG I have as ‘old’. I’ve never been offered flecianide as I went down the ablation route, but as my AF has now returned regularly I shall ask my EP about it when I see him later this month.

Perhaps you’d let me know the response?

Of course. My appointment is 27 October so I’ll try and private message you when I know the outcome.

As secondtry says, everyone is different so we can't go off what other people get prescribed. However, I understood that the reason my EP doubled my bisoprolol dose, was because he had started me on flecainide after my ablation, hopefully just for the 'blanking period'.

Hi, I’ve had lbbb for ages, and used pip flec. But when I changed from met. to sot., the flec. cause some other combo arrhythmias. So now flec. is off the menu. Recently had a second ablation but still having bouts, tho not lasting long. Pretty sick of this pharma merry-go-round. Thinking maybe getting generally healthier, eating cleaner, a bit fitter might be a better option.

I have AFIB but have not had an incident in 9 months. I take 100 mg flecanide twice a day. And 180 Diltiazem CD once a day. I just started the Diltiazem in February after I went toER with AFIB.
