Biologics (mAbs) - what are they and how do they work? 🤔
According to
asthma
UK about 40% of
severe
asthmatics have eosinophilic
asthma
. MEPOLIZUMAB/NUCALA In England this is typically the first eos mAb you’ll be put on. Mepo works by blocking interleukin-5 (IL-5) which is responsible for the maturation and release of eosinophils in the bone marrow.

Thank goodness for the union!
At last - a good result from my struggles with my school (refusing to implement occupational health adjustments to keep me safe with
severe
asthma
as a primary school teacher and also harassing me while I’ve been signed off).

Severe Asthma and Severe Allergies - the joys!
Does anyone here suffer with
severe
allergies that exacerbate their
asthma
? The reason I’m asking is because I’ve had a good run on Xolair (started early this year) but as my usual allergy season rears it’s ugly head, so have my symptoms which has come as a bit of a surprise.

How can you tell the difference between asthma and a chest infection?
Following on from the posts about antibiotics. I have looked at the useful information re: asthma and chest infections on the site and am still not sure where I am with it. I had an asthma flare up last week following a good spell and a decrease of Seretide 250 dosage to 1 puff 2 x per day alongside

Options for multiple severe asthma exacerbations
I suffer from
severe
asthma
. In less than a year I have had 8 chest infections: 4 - required steroids 6 - required antibiotics 2 - were COVID like but were not, though I did receive codeine for 1 one of the flare-ups. 1 - required visit to A&E but not admitted.

Permanent night shift workers at heightened risk of moderate to severe asthma.
Shift work causes misalignment between internal circadian time and the external light/dark cycle and is associated with metabolic disorders and cancer. Asthma nurse, long term medication
Hi all hope you’re doing well. Been for my first appointment with the asthma nurse to check inhaler technique etc, she was very nice. The way she way talking was that she classed me as having a diagnosis of asthma and asked about symptoms/triggers. She read that the gp had suspected it a few weeks ago

New health unlocked and to C25k with Asthma
Tomorrow I start couch to 5k with asthma. With 1 failed attempt under my belt from a few years ago this time I’m determined to finish it.

What is classed as severe?
Hi all, is there any current guidelines for what is considered
severe
asthma
for the purposes of shielding? I’m asking because work are saying I should be shielding because I was before but I’m no longer on oral steroids and not even sure I’d meet the criteria anymore.

This week's research updates.
The study, which has been published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, lays the foundation for a more personalized diagnosis and may result in improved treatment of

in the future. https://news.ki.se/lipid-biomarkers-in-urine-can-determine-the-type-of-asthma

Asthma attacks, panic attacks and what to do?
Hi I'm new on here so thanks in advance for any help/advice. I was diagnosed with asthma about 14 years ago. Last week I had my second asthma attack this year- thankfully whilst on Facetime to the 111 Dr so he called the ambulance and I went to A&E again. I usually manage my asthma well and am not too

Minty Feeling, Anxiety, Reflux
(I have moderate-
severe
asthma
). I got off that and after about a week tried Prevacid. I managed four days on that and had to get off. I felt like I was breathing through a scratchy straw!
