Hi I have joined as my brother has end stage cirrhosis of the liver along with ascites & other complications due to very heavy drinking over many years. He is now at the stage where he can’t walk & refuses to let me contact his gp or any other health professional. Any offers of advice would be extremely

Starting running after covid pneumonia
Around 2 years ago, I completed couch to 5k and became quite a good runner, cyclist and did plenty of hiking. I'm 50 years old. However, in September 2021 my world was turned upside down when I caught covid and it landed me in hospital, seriously ill. It developed into pneumonia, and respiratory failure

Once a month and really, once a month
Hello I have been diagnosed with Fibrosis Stage 3 but they are treaing me as though I have early Cirrohsis. I've been told to abstain alcohol forever. Now if I truly have the willpower to treat myself on one day a month to a few drinks and it is only one day a month, would it really do any harm ? I guess

Muscle tension
Hi, Have been suffering from severe anxiety for a little while. My main symptom is chronic and painful muscle tension throughout my whole body and dizziness. It never leaves me and makes it hard to relax or do anything normal. Any tips gratefully received.

Have diagnosis now
Got a letter from consultant now and it is confirmed that I have alcohol related cirrhosis. Consultant said "The key here though is not so much how much scarring there is in the liver, but how the liver is functioning, and on your liver blood tests your liver is functioning pretty well at present.

Functional Recovery from Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Dopamine Neuron Grafts is Dependent on Neurite Outgrowth
Summary Transplantation of human pluripotent stem cell-derived dopaminergic (DA) neurons is an emerging therapeutic strategy for Parkinson’s disease (PD). In this study, we demonstrate, for the first time, that that functional recovery after DA neuron transplant is critically dependent on graft-host

Thank You
I’ve been a ‘lurker’ here on the forum, writing very few posts but very much learning about liver disease, it’s complications and it’s effects on the patient, but also on those who care. I wanted to thank both the British Liver Trust for a fantastic resource of information on the liver and it’s complications

PBC care in the US/ Transplant times/ success rates
So… when I was diagnosed we lived in Indiana and I was getting care at IU (misdiagnosed as AIH/PBC overlap) but we were obviously scared/ sought a second opinion at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. 45 days later we were moving to Central Florida after purchasing a house we had never set foot in.

Alpha fetoprotein test for cirrhosis patients??
Hi, is it standard for this test to be done every 6 months with the liver scan? I've just had my bloods done (post liver scan and pre consultant appointment) and spotted that I have been tested for this for the first time and the results are hidden from my Patient Knows Best account ... should I be worried

Becoming a burden to my family
Hi I have cirrhosis and liver cancer and would be interested in talking to other older people like myself who feel that they are undecided about there future. The experts all seem to give the same advice. My worry is are they just keeping you alive regardless of your quality of life and the heartache

update
Hello all. I haven't been here for long time as I am trying to avoid media for now. Little update (if anyone read it) my liver nurse says that I am doing very well, I managed to do some houseworks, workouts and eat well. We proceed my check ups from every 3 weeks to every 8 weeks as my blood tests

My son has his first appointment with Vanderbilt Hepatologist this week, anything I need to be aware of?
My son finally has his first appointment with the hepatologist this week to just establish with them. We have been told he doesn't need a liver transplant yet from the GI physician. However, due to Covid and just how long it takes to get appointments for new patients, we wanted to get him established

NEW TO THIS
I have not had a formal diagnosis yet, been referred to the Heptology department at the local hospital, not until July ! This is due to high ALT, just had another blood test. I have not drunk any alcohol since I found out about this. Have I been a heavy drinker, well I didn't think so, but I did
