I have not had a formal diagnosis yet, been referred to the Heptology department at the local hospital, not until July ! This is due to high ALT, just had another blood test. I have not drunk any alcohol since I found out about this. Have I been a heavy drinker, well I didn't think so, but I did enjoy a drink, and I may have binged once or twice. Thank goodness it is something I can take or leave, and I am definetly leaving it .... I am finding this site very informative so thank you for your help with this. x

How long have you been drinking? Was it like everday drinking or rather 2-3 times a week? You have to wait for your appointment.

High ALT does not always mean that you have serious issue with your liver. But better to check this of course.

thank you for your reply, I have been a social drinker, I really don't know. I wouldn't say I was a drinker as I said it is something I can take or leave. But I have used alcohol when overly stressed or depressed ..... Since the high enzyme I certainly wouldn't touch anything alcoholic, and that isn't a big issue with me. O-kay I am worried and it does seem to be a long time to July to get a definitive answer, but maybe my last blood test will give me some answers to how things are x

Ok but "definitive answer" is usually not common after one vist... but maybe you are going to be lucky.

Isn't that the truth!

They sent you to a hepatologist over one high ALT test? Was it crazy high? Just asking because that seems off. If everything else was normal with no symptoms then that seems like a leap.

no, I have a lot of other things going on, it was high enzymes in my blood that was worrying. Having read some of these notes I thought ALT referred to that ! Any info welcome x
