I've an appointment for nicotine patches on Sunday (it's friday). I have COPD but after reading that my breathing will probably get worse when I've stopped smoking I am now petrified and confused as of what to do ???

Self-testing machine for checking INR
I am on warfarin having decided, for various reasons, not to go onto one of the new anticoagulant drugs. The only drawback is the regular blood testing. Has anyone any experience of the self-testing kits such as CoaguchekXS system? I was slightly concerned to read the NICE guideline which state that

AF seems to have settled down. No more problems
I was diagnosed with AF about two years ago and was given amiodarone and a lot of other medicine.. None of which helped very much. And I had long periods of leaving me out of breath. I I then read on the Internet that losing weight and getting back to normal weight could reduce AF by 65%. I was so desperate

Phlebitis and SLE?
Hi . Just wanted to know if anyone else has suffered with Phlebitis as a SLE symptom or if it is my meds that might be causing it. It is bad enough that I can't walk very far but now I have an inflammation of the blood vessels in my foot and leg! Any info would be helpful.

MPN or not. So stressed! My blood counts have been all over the place for the last few years. I was finally referred to oncologist,
So I went to an oncologist close to home. Horrible bedside manner. Very quick visit. He told me I either have MPD or smokers something. I can't remember the name. The MPD panel came up negative as well as the jak2 and a few others. His nurse called me today and told me they were negative and he thinks

Newly diagnosed PE and scared :-(
Hi all, I'm 35 years old and had severe chest pain since New Year's Eve, which I thought was a pulled muscle. Last Thursday I was diagnosed with a PE after blood test and CTPA scan (no leg swelling at all). I've been having daily blood tests, Heparin injections and Warfarin tablets but feel very alone

Iron infusion
That's me had my iron top up, 1500ml over two weeks, feel great for it, not tired not so breathless ( can get big peak deep breaths) not so sleepy etc. Highly recommended lol they still don't know how or why my hemoglobin / iron count drifts up and down. David 1968

Phenindione shortage
I have just received a letter from my doctor referring me to a haematologist as Phenindione is due to reach critical levels in the new year. I can not tolerate warfarin as it gives me sickness and diarrhoea, I did spend a year taking enoxaparin injections. I am not sure whether I want to take a new

So...does cannabis oil work?
Hi, i am going to let you make your own mind up about this as i know there will be some skeptics out there. Cannabis oil has been legalised in 26 states in America, with doctors able to prescribe medicinal marijuana to patients with crohns disease, cancer, epilepsy etc. etc, plus COPD. You have people

COPD
During the last week I have been short of breath which is causing my anxiety attacks, I've lost about 18lb in just over a week because the anxiety is driving me nuts, I am pretty sure I have COPD but of course with being the time of year getting PFT's would be near impossible. I went to the ER the other

Anticoagulation therapy tracking app
Hi everyone! My name is Luka and I suffered from 2 DVT's in both of my legs. I got first one when I was 12 years old after which I was diagnosed with thrombophilia. Since I was young and stupid I didn't realise how serious was the diagnosis and lived my life as a young person does - wild and careless

Pulmonary Hypertension
Dear All, I am hoping that someone can advise or point me in the right direction with regard to symptoms that I have been experiencing for over 12 months. I have a history of Pulmonary Embolisms (4 in total over the years) and DVT's in my right calf. Following my latest episode of PE in November 2014

Amioderone
Something that may be useful knowledge..... My respiratory consultant is trying to find the cause of my pulmonary hypertension. Fibrosis has been ruled out. He said that it was very good that I had never taken amioderone as it can cause pulmonary fibrosis and that I must never take it. I had an injection
