Oregon Health & Sciences University research project might have found the first treatment to slow or stop progression of Parkinson's disease
The Portland institution is one of six places that has quietly tested a new drug that shows the potential to pinpoint the cause of Parkinson's, which has eluded researchers for 200 years. OHSU now wants people newly diagnosed with Parkinson's who are interested in being part of a clinical trial. Patients

Parkinson’s
Hi, I have had Parkinson’s for about three years. I have tried so many medicines but they have not given me respite. In February I was in Cambodia when I ran out of my meds. In Cambodia I found Sinemet, this seemed to give me total rest of all my symptoms. Sadly when I got home, I was not able to find

Parkinsons Commercial
I hate the lastest commercial about Parkinsons Disease. My husband was diagnosed 2 years ago and the meds have been working for him with the tremors.. Seeing commercials like this are depressing for him and I am sure others with this horrible disease. You don't see other commercials about other diseases

Everyone reads SoPD; Radotinib 3.3 times more in the brain than Nilotinib
https://scienceofparkinsons.com/2018/06/17/radotinib/ But as Karen Rafael (Member of Parkinson's Research Interest Group (on Facebook)) "Don't you just love it when Simon has so much exciting news to share??!! One drug in clinical trials, another likely to head that way."

Using marijuana for Parkinson’s disease
Not a miracle cure, but a much-needed relief It’s really important to point out one thing—cannabis can’t cure Parkinson’s Disease but it can provide some much-needed relief from tremors and stiffness. Furthermore, Parkinson’s patients tend to suffer from other symptoms which marijuana can treat. Sleeping

Worldwide Parkinson’s Disease Statistics
The prevalence figures for
Parkinsonism
in Albania were found to be 800 per 100,000.
Parkinsonism
includes some other medical disorders. So the Albanian figure for only Parkinson's Disease would be lower, but would still be higher than any other country.

mannitol and painful cramp
A couple of weeks back I woke and could hardly straiten my arms for painful cramp. Painkillers got me through the day but it seemed to be getting worse. I couldn't pick up a mug without pain. I have been taking mannitol for 4 months 12g a day. The weather has been warm (unusual for north England). Reading

I never felt lime me and felt mad and aggressive as if I wanted to murder someone!! Hence I've stopped it completely. Has anyone else had similar problems?? Only problem now

Dietary method for reducing fluctuations in PD (1987)
What are good updates to this 1987 study which is open access? Dietary method for reducing fluctuations in Parkinson's disease. Pincus JH, et al. Yale J Biol Med. 1987 Mar-Apr. Abstract. Motor fluctuations and non-response to carbidopa-levodopa (Sinemet) therapy are major problems in the long-term management

Not much discussion on HU about the endocannabinoid system. If you are interested in medical marijuana for PD. Dr. Sarah King.
Hi Marc, We're jumping off the beaten path in this week's Facebook LIVE broadcast. Sometimes you just have to think outside the box and reach outside your comfort zone for answers, and Monday's interview will be taking a lot of us there. Dr. Michelle Sexton is a naturopathic doctor, professor

Update on Hinz Protocol
It was disappointing, but I took away from it two things, one: the possible efficacy of Mucuna as a dopamine replacement and two: the wish for people to be aware of the diagnosis of Dementia with Lewy Bodies when facing
Parkinsonism
symptoms, as well as the med intolerance that can go with it.

Results of Mannitol Repository from Clinicrowd
Dear Friends, some of you were very helpful in filling up the repository about the effect of Mannitol on Parkinson's disease. It took us a while to release the results because we came to the conclusion that we need results that are more then 6 months of follow up. The reason is that Placebo effect is

Alpha Synuclein: New Species is discovered called Pa-syn - could it be the cause of cell death in PD?
OK, Here's my (simplistic) take away: 1. PD is caused by lack of dopamine. In PD brain autopsies, we often see Lewy bodies. 2. Lewy bodies are at least largely made up of protein, but a misfolded protein, called alpha synuclein (ASN). Because it is misfolded, it does not transfer signals between neurons
