Mirena

- Is it true that the mental/ emotional effects of the coil are less intense than contraceptive pill? Thank you very much for the time you have spent reading this. I realise it's a long post and rather vague questions.

After changing a couple of times contraceptives, in 2021 I got the Mirena coil, and it hasn't been that bad, it has stopped my excessive bleeding and helped me to control the pain. Now, I would like to remove the Mirena to start trying to get pregnant and I would like to ask for your advise...

I’ve been advised that the Mirena coil could be a good option for me to try, but am slightly nervous considering my history! Does anyone have a similar experience or some advice they could possibly give re managing this? Thank you so much in advance!

No one treated me holistically and no one admitted the Mirena coil was the cause. Recovering and lots of therapy to help me with the most traumatic of experiences I went through. Contacted PALS and awaiting their aplology.

Hi does anyone know if having the mirena coil affects fsh levels ? mine is really high 85IU/L Surely this cannot be right Thanks In advance Tina

The NHS haven’t been very helpful as I have been waiting for nearly two years for the mirena coil. I took matters into my own hands and got the mirena privately fitted as I would do anything to not be in constant pain.

To top it off I’ve now started my first period since the operation where they also took out and replaced my mirena coil. I’m feeling hot and cold constantly, can barely eat a children’s meal at meal times and just generally feeling run down.

I had the mirena coil fitted at the same time so fingers crossed that helps. How did people find an endo specialist rather than just the gynae they send you to at the docs?

Got the mirena and things improved for a while, then all the pain came back. Went back to the gynaecologist recently with same issues and bladder issues.

going through menopause as my periods had stopped for several months but then all of a sudden I was bleeding very heavily and my gp referred me to gynaecologist, after tests scans, internals etc I was told I had endometriosis and had probably had it a few years and that the best option for me was the mirena

I’ve had 2 laps for endo, have tri cycled the pill and been on tablets such as naproxen. Ive been so luckily that having the coil fitted during my 2nd lap has majorly improved pain and quality of life. I’ve had it for a year and bit and I’m on my 5th period. My dilemma is it’s pain free but how much

Some nurses have also said that they were surprised I was advised the mirena coil to help with my endo as it would not stop ovulation, so I am a bit confused.

I went back to the same gynaecologist and explained the situation, and he told me to take the pill again along with Mirena coil, and he put me on a waiting list for a second laparoscopy. The pill did work for three months, and then in December I had pain again, blood and even bladder infection.

I came off hrt, and in July she put a mirena coil in, after removing a polyp from my cervix. It was also discovered I have an atrophic dry vagina.

I had the hormonal Mirena coil inserted during the surgery as I was told this is the best solution to prevent endo from coming back. First two months were full of spotting/bleeding/cramps which I understood to be a part of recovery/adjusting to coil. Then it all eased off.

Has anyone had any experience of Mirena changing its effectiveness over time? thanks in advance- google has made me more confused! X

So I’ve had the mirena coil in now for endometriosis for almost 5 months , spotting on and off , headaches , body aches , hot flushes, nausea, pms and now my mood has took a turn for the worse I was hoping it would have settled by now !!

I went back on the pop to control it but the Dr suggested mirena coil instead. The lower dose of hormone is not controlling the pain though so I am now on the pill AND mirena plus daily amitriptyline to control the pain. has anyone experienced similar? I’d love to know your experiences.

I had two kids since and have a mirena coil so have had long stretches without periods. I've been constipated for the last year at least. I don't get any urge to go and it can be a week or more between movements. Stool softeners don't work and I need to take dulcolax to get things working.

Hiya, I wondered if anyone with a mirena coil has ended up using the patch too? If so, how are you finding it? I’ve been recommended it for stage 4 endo, surgery is 2+ years waiting list. I don’t react too well to hormones, but I’m at a point where it can’t be worse.
