No it shouldn’t. Are you of menopause age?

I would say you’ve gone through menopause. Anything over 30 FSH and the coil wouldn’t be replaced once expired.

This is why I’m wondering if the mirena effects fsh levels ??????

I’ve only had the mirena coil in nearly 6 months , was having normal periods before hand

All seems so strange to me 🤔

I surely can’t be post menopause !!!

You may well have gone through the menopause and the coil has coincided with change. It can be very sudden for some women. Go back to your provider and ask them to run checks as to why your fish maybe very high. Occasionally there are other factors such as ‘benign’ micro tumours of the pituitary that may cause the FSH to rise but it’s unlikely. The most likely cause is menopause which can be at root of initially very high readings and then very low.

Hi yeah I will check with my gp

But she not a menopause specialist , so doubt she will know !!

Thanks

this is interesting, I’m 37 and just had FSH result as 72 despite still having periods (although they’ve been irregular since mirena coil removed 2 years ago).

I read last night that people with severe Endo can often have very high FSH levels.

I also read some pain killers can also effect hormone levels, quite hard to stop taking them as pain is so unbearable.

Hi thanks for your reply

That’s very interesting and shows fsh levels can vary and arnt accurate as both of ours say we’re in post menopause when we know we’re not !!!!

My last laproscopy was in 2018 so I have no idea now how bad my endometriosis is and at what stage ??? Although I know my symtoms are a lot worse than they were back then

I take a lot of painkillers too

I’m noticing that my stomach is not tolerating them so much anymore though 😢

They give me a different kind of pain which isn’t period pain 😡

Thank you very much for replying, it’s reassuring to know I’m not alone. I’m scared now they’re going to put me on HRT which will feed the Endo even more.

Sounds so similar to me, my last Endo surgery was 2018 too. It’s always been severe but pain never effected me everyday before which it now does.

I relate to the issues the painkillers cause also.

Best wishes to you ❤️

Hi again thanks for your reply

Reguarding hrt…. My gp put me on estrogel 2 pumps a day recently , took it for 2 weeks and BAM my endo symptoms ramped up had awful period pains / cramps worse than before

I’ve stopped the gel and and I’m ok now , not been back to the gp yet as I wanted to feel a bit better before seeing her

Mirena won’t impact FSH. The only progesterone only contraceptive that can potentially affect it is the depot if you have FSH checked soon after the injection -it’s suggested bloods for FSH done close to when depot expires and next injection due for this reason.

In the perimenopause FSH fluctuates wildly as the ovaries stop working they sometimes will produce a follicle with enough oestrogen to make the FSH appear more normal, and other times not hence the FSH shoots up. This is why for someone in the usual age of perimenopause and has some typical symptoms, FSH adds no value to the assessment of whether perimenopausal, as you can check it one week and it’s “normal” then check it again and it’s high. For women with endo we often have prematurely failing ovaries.

With endo, if you have HRT (your choice if to start but is really important for general health up to 50 yo so if you have early menopause in your 30s would be important for bones, heart etc) it is very important to have combined HRT containing oestrogen and progesterone even if you have hysterectomy and try the lowest dose oestrogen possible.

Hi Thankyou for your reply and clarifying it for me

And yes I think I need to try the lowest dose estrogen as 2 pumps a day was too much for me and also not good as my gp didn’t prescribe me progesterone along side it

Hopefully when I see my gp again , together we can get the right dose and combination of hrt 🤞🤞

Thanks again

Just a quick question

Should I take combined hrt continuously or cyclic ?

Thanks

If no periods then continuous will be better to control endo. Your Mirena should be good to provide your continuous progesterone if you’re keeping the Mirena, especially if within the 4 years of fitting. Then just a smidge of oestrogen on top. Hope things go well for you.

Hi no periods now since having mirena fitted 6 months ago

Tried 2 pumps of estrogel daily with just the mirena but endo symptoms flared up 😢

So thinking either 1 pump or estrogel

Or estrogel plus progesterone on top of mirena x

Definitely worth playing around with things.

There should be a menopause specialist in every area GPs can ask for advice and guidance from too.
