endo experiences

hi everyone,

I’ve recently had multiple healthcare & gynae professionals suggest that I probably have a mild form of endometriosis, and am wondering if anyone has the same experiences as me who could offer some advice on management etc?

I had run 2 packs of the combined contraceptive pill together, in the last 2 weeks of the second pack, I started to get a pain in my lower right hand side that was a mixture of stabbing, and a dull, throbbing pain. The hospital ruled out appendicitis/ovarian cysts etc, and after taking my medical history, suggested it could well be endometriosis. I then came off the pill for a withdrawal week, and the pain almost died down immediately. When going back onto the pill again, the pain started up again! I then switched to Zelleta mini pill, but this made the pain a lot worse. I’ve now completely come off oral contraception, and am still in pain, but it seems to be subsiding.

I’ve been advised that the Mirena coil could be a good option for me to try, but am slightly nervous considering my history!

Does anyone have a similar experience or some advice they could possibly give re managing this?

Thank you so much in advance!

I don’t have personal experience of this, but I think it would be helpful for your GP to try and work out what is going on before you try the coil. It is also a hormonal treatment as you probably know and once it is in place you may have problems getting it removed -as in getting someone to do it, I mean, it is not a difficult thing to do physically.

Have a read up on this site of other people’ experiences of the coil. It is great for some and not for others. It might also help you to look at the common signs and symptoms of endometriosis, and compare it to what you experienced. What you are describing seems to be that when you stopped the pill during your period week the pain went away. That sounds like the pain is related to the pill and not the period which is not usually what happens in endo.

Hope you find some answers x
