Does anyone have any ideas they can offer as to when and how to discuss their child's liver disease with them?
My daughter has Biliary Atresia, portal hypertension with grade 3 oesophageal varies. Sophie is 3 years old and has a twin sister. With recent visits to KCH it seems she is headed for a transplant and I want to know if anyone has dealt with discussing these things with their child, if so how?

How effective is bezafibrate in controlling cholesterol?
I had to come off statins because of muscle pain, and wondered if others have used fibrates and how effective they were?

Lipid clinic visit
I go for my quarterly check up with my consultant on Thursday. Hopefully, my cholesterol will be down, as I have stuck rigidly to a low fat diet, done lots of walking and lost a stone in weight since the last visit. Will report back!

Have been told to take Stanol by consultant, not having much luck finding it. Anyone heard of it?
First lipid consultation yesterday has left me reeling! All too much too fast and would appreciate some perspective if anyone has any advice to offer. LDL 5.2, overall 7.3. Had to stop simvastatin, have a genetic muscle problem. Consultant changed blood pressure tablets, told me to stop eating practically

How can I get my GP to refer me to a lipid clinic
I'm 42, always exercised a good deal ie most days, always had a good diet ( even better now following heart uk advice) and never overweight. Never smoked. Diagnosed with likely FH 2 years ago. Total chol 8.6 but with a LDL/HDL ratio of 5.6/2.3. Prescribed simvastatin 40mg and now atorvostatin

Possible side effects since moving on to generic atorvastatin - continue or stop taking meds?
Hi everyone. I only discovered Heart UK a few days ago, and have already received a wealth of useful diet information. I'd like some advise regarding (possibly) coming off statins, I'll try to keep this as short and to the point as possible! I'm 42, male, and have been taking Lipitor 20mg (atorvastatin

Hello, I am 56 years old, non smoker, normal BMI (5ft 1, 8st 7lb). My latest test show total cholesterol is 6.7, LDL 3.9, HDL 2.4.
My GP says that as I a not in the 'high risk' category there is no need for me to take statins but I even though my diet is very healthy I want to take statins for peace of mind as my father had a lot of strokes and was a non smoker and not overweight. I worry every day about this and want to ask if

Light Buoyant LDL versus Small Dense LDL.
I've heard 'Light Buoyant LDL' (Pattern A) is not a dangerous form of LDL and it is 'Small Dense LDL' (Pattern B) that can cling to the artery walls. Also, it is possible to ascertain from measurements of Triglycerides and HDL, whether or not ones LDL value is high in 'Pattern A' and low in 'Pattern

My Cholesterol Experience
Hello Everybody, here is my story, my Grandma died age 48 in 1973 prior to my birth and my Father died in 1986 when I was 11, both had high cholesterol and both died of heart attacks. I was tested as a result of my fathers death and found to have high cholesterol, I don't know what level it was back

Lipid Clinic Confusion (again!).
Today I had my lipid clinic appointment. I was nervous about this one as I have made a decision not to take any more statins. Long story about side effects and a family history of muscle disorder had finally convinced me that this is the right decision for me. I was sorry if I appeared hostile when I

Lipid clinic Hell!
The lipid clinic I attend is so completely dire! I arrived this morning after a cancellation appointment was offered to me over the phone on Wed. Appointment time 9.45. I got there for 9, as usually there is a massive que for bloods, today, no que and I went straight through. No organisation to be weighed

Hi my name is Jackie and my son's name is Aaron he has Portal Hypertension, varacis and blocked splenic vein, we only found out in April of this year, Aaron is 9. Sadly Aaron cannot have the shunt done due to the blocked splenic vein and now sadly we are investigating if this is genetic. My first son
