Is hypocholesterolaemia the goal? Looks like it is (see last sentence of my quoted piece). I wonder what Malcolm Kendrick's view will be? Could it ever be sensible to prescribe any form of cholesterol-lowering agent without first having properly investigated the possibility of a thyroid disorder?

The reason for cholesterol increase in hypothyroidism

High Cholesterol
I just got a test done and these were the results: Total
Cholesterol
7.42
HDL
1.79 TRIG 1.27 LDL 5.05 I know this is in high range but the lab guy told me since HDL is high, it sort of balances out so no need for any drastic changes in diet or medication at the moment.

Take Control of Your Heart Health
Total

has very limited value in assessing cardiac risk. Non-
HDL
has limited value as well, as do measures of LDL-C, which are calculated and not directly measured. The most accurate measure of atherogenic lipids is the LDL-P (particle number).

Cholesterol Busting Super-Soup - Redux
Soluble Fiber is lacking in the typical Western diet. Soluble fiber is ESSENTIAL in lowering the atherogenic LDL-P cholesterol, naturally, without statin drugs. http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/insoluble-soluble-fiber Some people have made comments that foods high in soluble fiber are unpalatable

Interpreting results
Hi - I have been told my cholesterol is too high but I am unsure of the readings and what they mean - any advice/explanation would be gratefully received. It is of concern to me because I also have high blood pressure (kidney disease as a child and I was told that as an adult I would have high blood
