Intrinsic factor
Looking at recent blood results my intrinsic factor is 1, which doc says is fine, says it should be below 1.2 U/ml. I self Inject now as spray/tablets don’t help. Do I need to ask for the test to be done again? I don’t like to waste resources.

I think I have PA but my test results say otherwise? (& rapid increase in symptoms?)
Hello! I have had anaemia for about a year and my GP has been trying to work out what is causing it. I initially had low-ish b12 so had the b12 injections and my anaemia improved somewhat; since then I have been on the b12 pills instead (as we wondered if i had a dietary deficiency). The anaemia has

Advice requested
Hi 👋 Sorry for long post... I’ve had bilateral swelling and stiffness in feet, ankles, knees, shoulders, wrists and hands for a while now but seems to have worsened over past 12 months or so. GP has recently done bloods - Rheumatoid factor was 10 (range <15) so I’m guessing this rules out RA? My ESR

Help - hoping Doc will do Intrinsic Factor test
Hi all! Long time user of the Thyroid UK HealthUnlocked forum, first time poster over here. I am diagnosed hypothyroid (I think it's hashimotos due to antibody flares) and over the years have had low vit D and low B12. I'm aware that with hypothyroid it's important to have good vitamin levels to help

B12 deficency or not?
Was hoping someone here could offer some advice. My GP recently ran blood tests to exclude Pernicous Anemia and B12 deficiency (both of which have now been ruled out - see results below) Intrinsic factor Abs = 1.77 Unit METHYLMALONIC ACID 0.27 umol/L [0.1 - 0.42] Is it normal to exclude B12 deficency

Folic acid and Sudden onset of symptoms
Hi Everyone - I’m new to the group and have just been diagnosed with PA. My b12 blood test was 311 but I had strong neurological symptoms that went away with b12 shots. Starting from March 2019 until I started B12 shots 3 weeks ago, I was having neurological symptoms where my feet and hands were burning

Pernicious Anaemia and Epilepsy
A couple of years ago I had a problem I thought was my balance, but having a routine blood test for my med levels, I was asked to have another blood test, a few weeks later I had a letter and a very good print-out about PA, it said that taking anti-convulsants can have an effect on your Intrinsic Factor

B9 Folic acid
Hi All From reading blogs on the site, I understand that b12, b9 and iron have to be in balance with intrinsic factor to enable b12 to be absorbed in the ileum. If this is the case, why, on the NHS site does it have a list of symptoms for b9 deficiency that differ from those for b12? Wouldn’t b12 deficiency

GP questioning why serum b12 above range if body gets rid of excess b12.
Went to gp yesterday with my daughter to have her 12 weekly jab. Her last blood test ( meant to be checking ferritin but did b12 even though she’d emailed saying not to check it). Showed b12> 1500 - this test was 2 wks after an injection at the gps (but she SI anyway which they don’t know as would

Feel like the life is slowly being sucked out of me, and I’m treading in quick sand! Please help!?
Hi, I know I only posted my results recently, but when I saw the GP, it was a different one than last time, as the original didn’t have any appointments and I needed to see someone sooner for another reason. The upshot of my consult was that I ended up in tears begging to be treated as an individual

Has anyone had their diagnosis taken away?
I have just made another post about my reduced mobility so apologies for that. I was diagnosed with SLE in January 2018. In the time from diagnosis until now I have had the following antibodies: ANA, dsDNA, Mi2b, Ro52, Rheumatoid Factor and anti-cardiolipin. For some reason UCTD was the diagnosis put

State of the art testing for PA?
I've been pursuing PA as a possible explanation for my numerous long term health issues, beginning injections on 6/3. As many here report, results have been mixed; apparent initial improvement followed by some issues worsening. I understand the mechanism of PA is presence of an antibody against Intrinsic

Thyroid blood tests
I had my thyroid removed 3 years ago but have never managed to have satisfactory results since and it was found I needed T3 which I was given but taken off last September because it costs too much. I had tests which proved I needed it and was given it back in April. I have consistently had a suppressed

PA and Epilepsy and intrinsic factor
I have had Epilepsy for over 40 years, I was pretty much controlled, then I started falling over indoors, ok I'm used to that, but this was no fit, I thought it was my balance, after a couple of blood tests, I was told I had PA, one of the doctors in the practice, not my Dr, she wouldn't bother, she
