Magnesium and dopamine
Maybe someone can help explain the effect of magnesium on dopamine levels.I thought a dopamine agonist was helpful in calming rls. Magnesium is an antagonist so decreases dopamine levels, yet is touted as effective in controlling rls. Don't know if I'm making any sense here. I also read that taking mg

THC and augmentation
In researching THC use and RLS, it is described as a dopamine agonist. Is there evidence it can also produce augmentation? . It works very well for me and does not produce the side effect that makes Gabapentin, Lyrica or opioids unacceptable options. However I can’t use it much because of my line of

Pramipexole to Sinemet to ?
I've previously posted that I had been using pramipexole (P) for over 30 years, had only learned about augmentation recently and was in the process of transitioning off P to Sinemet (S)(recommended by my PCP). The transition went very well, however, an allergic reaction to S (a rash developed) made

Seratonin for resting tremor : could tremor that doesn’t respond to just dopamine need more seratonin?
pharmacological treatment for tremor that acts on serotonin to recover dopamine levels. This latter result has been validated by reproducing existing data collected with human patients. PD resting tremor can be divided into various partially overlapping phenotypes that may be associated with different

Vagal Nerve Stimulation (tVNS) Research Summary
Some definitions for clarity. Neuromodulation, stimulating nerves (usually with electricity) to change (hopefully improve) or control their function. Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is a form of neuromodulation. Neuromodulation can be invasive, requiring surgery (like DBS) or noninvasive which provides

Allergic Reaction to Sinemet?
I posted previously that after being on Pramipexole for over 30 years, I, at the direction of my PCP, completed about 2 weeks ago a transition over an 8 week period from P to Sinemet (100 carbidopa-200 levodopa). The transition went smoothly and I am now on two tablets, one taken at 3 pm and a second

Interesting Bits of News
Very often, I come across some bit of news that might give a hint about the cause of and/or ways to mitigate (live better with) PD. Sometimes (as is the case with the one below) it's about a review of studies on Alzheimer's. Of course, Alzheimer's isn't the same as PD, but I think many of us recognize

Epimedium has been shown to improve cognition and memory and to boost energy.
The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of icariin in the brain reduce various conditions associated with neurodegeneration. This activity, combined with its ability to improve neuronal energy

IRL1117, Potential Improvement on Levodopa, May Enter Clinical Trial
IRLAB Therapeutics has selected a dopamine receptor agonist candidate called IRL1117 to advance as a Parkinson’s disease treatment, potentially as a longer-lasting alternative to levodopa with lesser side effects. IRL1117 is designed to be a once-daily oral therapy for the hallmark symptoms of Parkinson

What to try next?
My 69 year old HwP has had tremor dominant PD for the past 7 years - taking only Azilect (that he started a year ago). The tremor is much worse, embarrassing him at work, so he needs more therapy. Shooting pain in one foot (and numbness in both) is another recent problem. The neurologist prescribed

Iron metabolism in RLS : iron transporter ferroportin & Magnesium Malate
Editing to preface: The important subject of iron metabolism deserves a much better post than this. I apologize for how confusing, messy, and inconsistent it is. Please disregard it or take it with a grain of salt. I would erase it but out of respect for the comments made, I wont. I cut and pasted

“The three amino acids that are most effective at increasing dopamine levels are l-tyrosine, L-dopa, and phenylalanine.”
Anyone using these in combination? I think adding SAM-e to this might work synergistically? I’m learning other means of increasing dopamine to wean off of Azilect.

Edited: PD increases chance of RLS.(yes) Azilect worsens RLS.(wrong) Ambroxol, being an antihistamine I believe worsens RLS.(incorrect)
Edited to state that: I was wrong! Editing my edit: (yes, I know, but I’m trying) Not only do dopamine agonists make RLS worse but so do meds that increase dopamine. Azilect was not mentioned specifically but increasing dopamine is a “cause of RLS augmentation.” Levodopa increases augmentation meaning

SAM-e is it beneficial to Parkinson’s? It increases dopamine
Animal studies show that chronic SAMe administration increases dopaminergic tone in brain regions, including rat striatum (24), and increases CNS beta-adrenergic receptor density and activity (25,26). Thus, studies of central monoaminergic neurotransmitters support proposed mechanisms for SAMe antidepressant

Be careful with B6/P5P
I have been toxic on B6 for quite some time with dosing just 30-40 mg of P5P. I only figured it out after running out of the supplement. It really made me more anxious and depressed and made my gait very strange. Modern medicine says that under 100mg is safe. Looking back, the worsening of symptoms
