Can anyone explain the importance of lipoprotein(a)?
My cholesterol level is 5.9 - LDL 3.89, but my lipoprotein(a) is 93.1. I am reluctant to take statins but my consultant thinks I should br treated aggressively. I am female (60) 5'8" 12st.

Shocked !!!!
On Friday i was in the local market with my wife when a N.H.S nurse approached us and asked if we would like a blood test. My wife was first to do the test, she is a healthy eater, no smoker and does regular exercise, she has a 2% chance of having a heart attack. Now it was my turn, I eat the same as

How effective is bezafibrate in controlling cholesterol?
I had to come off statins because of muscle pain, and wondered if others have used fibrates and how effective they were?

I understand I need to take statins (cholesterol 7.8) but now (?) aspirin? Differing doctor's opinions?
My cholesterol level has risen sharply in a short time and a lung scan, which was clear, found something else - an artery to the heart has a few fatty plaques. I understand the doctor wanting to put me on statins, but the nurse appears to have asked another doctor (she may have forgotten that she asked

Lipid clinic visit
I go for my quarterly check up with my consultant on Thursday. Hopefully, my cholesterol will be down, as I have stuck rigidly to a low fat diet, done lots of walking and lost a stone in weight since the last visit. Will report back!

Cholesterol and Weetabix
Just had my last cholesterol test result which had dropped to 4.7 from 5.2 GP was very pleased. The only change I have made is to change breakfast cereal to Weetabix. GP commented that it's cholesterol free and is supposed to mop up cholesterol. It may not work for everyone, but worth a try.

My cholesterol level was 7.6 (ratio 5.7) this week, but six months ago it was 6.2 (4.1)
How could this happen if my diet and lifestyle is no different? 12 months ago it was 6.7 and since then I have been taking cholesterol lowering drinks every day.

Have been told to take Stanol by consultant, not having much luck finding it. Anyone heard of it?
First lipid consultation yesterday has left me reeling! All too much too fast and would appreciate some perspective if anyone has any advice to offer. LDL 5.2, overall 7.3. Had to stop simvastatin, have a genetic muscle problem. Consultant changed blood pressure tablets, told me to stop eating practically

I am 87, and have been told that my cholesterol level is 4.5 units. Is that too high or too low?
I take the dog out every day for a mile or so, weigh 13st, +- 1 lb and gave up smoking in 1982. I complained about shortage of breath and that's how I found out about my cholesterol level.
