Post encephalitis
feeling isolated after recovering from encephalitis & not having much support from local consultants at my hospital or doctors as no one seems to think that any of my problems are down to having had encephalitis & if I'm honest they don't seem to have a clue about ongoing & lasting effects this has changed

Shingles & Flare
I haven't posted for about 10 months. Last I was moving back to our home after working away for three years. The move went well, we had almost 5 months at home, and being winter we got a lot of work done on inside of our house. It was fun and aside from the odd day on the couch it all went well.

Broken Places story of Parkinson's
I recently published a book named, Broken Places. One of the chapters is about my diagnosis and subsequent journey to find proper treatment. For anyone just diagnosed, I think this might be enlightening. You can view the book at: www.amazon.com/author/nancywhitfield I recently underwent DBS at Stanford

I think I just found the answer to fitness and weight gain. Since my Dbs success I've been hitting the gym 3x weekly. I actually gained 30 lbs but unfortunately it's been 50/50 muscle:fat according to my bmi scale. I just haven't been able to walk enough to keep the fat down. Today I purchased a

Migraines from viral meningitis
Dear all, I had viral meningitis in October 2012 and its nearly 3 years after now! I have chronic migraines from the VM and have had for over 2 years. Off and on. Sometimes more on than off. I am trying botox injections from my neurologist every 3 months as well as daily propranolol and endep. Just wondering

What to expect from DBS
My doctor is recommending DBS. I'm terrified. What does it feel like? How long is recovery? I live alone and I'm nervous about being discharged too soon, as hospitals seem so anxious to do these days. Do you have to be awake or do they knock you out?

Mobility Scooter
Afternoon all. I had to come and tell everyone of my new found freedom on my mobility scooter. I had used them a couple of times from Shopmobility at shopping centres, and my husband has nagged me to have one of my own which I had resisted until a couple of weeks ago. My sister was taken ill and was

Dog bite anxiety going in for 3 weeks now
So I got bit by a chihuahua 3 weeks ago it was a small bite through my sock on my ankle. The bite does not hurt and there is no pain around the bite, but I keep getting the worst anxiety about this bite like I'm going to die of rabies or something. I have googled so much information on this subject and

I'm having DBS surgery in August. My husband is not supportive at all. In fact he said some so hurtful things to me. At this point I don't even want him at the surgery. Am I going to have problems in the surgery because of the emotional state I am in. It's not gonna get any better with him. But this

DBS and infection
Hi. I'm one of those few patients you read about who developed a brain infection from a DBS operation. I now have DBS on one side only. i'm fortunate that I came out of it all right. Now I'm going to have to decide if I want to get the other side done. I think I may wait to see what type of new DBS

Shingles
I am now into my third week with Shingles and I am in constant pain. I have had all the appropiate medicines...anti viral and neurotin for pain and nothing has eased the symptoms. I stayed on 15 mg. of prednisone and just wondered if I should have raised that a bit. I did not want to have to reduce
