BTA and 'T3 does not cross the placenta'
The BTA guidelines on liothyronine state 'T3 does not cross the placenta'. There is some truth in this in that type 3 deiodinase (D3) in placenta converts T3 to T2. However, they fail to point out that D3 also converts T4 to rT3. The transport of T3 and T4 across the placenta is very complex but the

Blood test results
Could you help me make sense of these? 18 months ago my GP lowered my levothyroxine dose on the basis of a suppressed TSH. I got all the symptoms back. I did not have a blood test between Jan 2022 and a fortnight ago. I waited 15 months for this hospital appointment. The consultant wrote to me with

Anxiety
Hi, I'm 67 and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in my early 50s. A couple of years ago I was started on Atorvastatin for raised cholesterol and suffered anxiety, which went away when I came off the medication. I was then started on Rosuvastatin and after a few months developed anxiety again. However

Distortion of Hba1c test with levo
Hi Someone asked me to give further info about my claim that HbA1c tests cannot be relied upon if you are being treated with levothyroxine. I can't find that request now so I'm starting a new thread. The clearest statement is on the American Thyroid Association website.
WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS

'Interim' GP blood results and trying to draw conclusions
Hello, A GP I saw recently (long story but not same one who gave me increase in Levo) ordered bloods. I have been on 100 mcg of Accord for 4 weeks, so wasn't planning to test for another month. The following were tested, I've included the same NHS results for comparison earlier this year.: NHS

headaches an hour after taking Levothyroxine
This is so debilitating - it's migraine-like (i.e. visuals and strange sensation) and lasts all-day. I've been ok-ish on the Levothyroxine (not super-well but getting by) but this is too much. I also have diarrhoea every day after taking it but I've always had that with the Levo. I take the Levothyroxine

T4 in Levo v T4 in NDT
Taking NDT I have often wondered how long the T4 in NDT starts to work and how. In Levo everyone states six weeks before it starts to work. Does anyone have a clue it could be interesting but I cannot find any information on it.

Having an op and NHS freaking out about suppressed TSH
I am having a very minor op under general anaesthetic and NHS have revealed suppressed TSH (0.024). They are basically refusing to operate until I get a Dr to say this is ok in the presence of normal T3 (5.2) and T4 (14.8). The problem is I self medicate with levothyroxine (50mcg daily) and one grain

Helpful GP
I’ve had hypothyroid symptoms for around 18 months or so but was being investigated for neurological causes, nothing found. Recently took a private test that showed slightly raised TSH and low but not under range T3 & T4. TPO & TGA positive. Took these to a routine wellness check and had bloods repeated

More questions from a Levo newbie I'm afraid !
Hello.I started taking my Levo, 75mg about 5 days ago. I've chosen to take it at night because when I wake up between 6 and 7 ( sometimes earlier, rarely later ! ) I tend to have a cup of tea. I could wait 30 mins but I understand it would be better to wait longer. So I thought bedtime would be easier

T3 / NDT
Hi - I'm 39 and have had hashimotos / under active thyroid for 10+ years. I have suffered from 3 miscarriages recently + had 2 poor quality / outcome IVF egg retrievals. I'm on 100mg of levothyroxine, TSH is in range (around 2) but T3 is really at the bottom of the range. I don't think I'm converting

Help with bending the truth to obtain right prescription
Hi all, wanted some help/advice to enable me to continue at current good level of Levo. I am 8 weeks into 100 mcg Levo, having had a raise from 50 then 75. I have a total thyroidectomy and was very ill at 50 mcg Levo to the level that I was almost non-functioning. Found out Dr had not realised I'd

Anyone out there in south Essex recently had NDT removed by their endocrinologist
I'd like to contact anyone else in the same area and situation as myself as I have recently had my NHS Armour prescription removedly a new endocrinologist. Please pm me if you're in this boat. I need T3 and it seems I may get Levo + Lio - anyone taking this instead of NDT with success? I am so scared
