I went through all my blood tests and I am always low in Vitamin D. I am trying to fix this. I have read that Vitamin K2 and magnesium also help absorb Vitamin D. So my question is. Does Vitamin D help anyone's RLS Symptoms? How do you take Vitamin D? What level are you looking for in your blood?

Has Vitamin D help anyone's RLS?
Yes, Vitamin D can help people with RLS symptoms and vitamin D deficiency. So taking vitamin D will help you.
The best method to take vitamin D is from sunlight, you can also eat seafood, mushrooms, egg yolks, etc as they are rich in vitamin D. The other way to get vitamin D is through supplements.
More than 75 nmol/L (30 ng/mL) is necessary to maximize the effect of vitamin D on calcium, bone, and muscle metabolism
Thank you, I seem to have difficulty absorbing Vitamin D. I took a large amount daily for a year and got to 59. That was before I knew about iron. So now I plan to raise my Vitamin D levels to see if it helps. I am outside a lot, although rainy season is here.
I am reading Vitamin K and Magnesium are important too when supplementing with Vitamin D. I am still trying to figure it all out.
No. I have taken high dose vitamin D (10,000iu )for decades because its supposed to help my MS. I still have severe, refractory RLS.
Hello WideBody,
I can only talk for me, of course, and I notoriously react badly to everything, but a high dose of vitamin D (I was low too) sent me crazy. I got so irritable and mad at everything, which, in turn, fired up the RL on all cylinders! Didn't think for a minute it would be that supplement, so took a while to stop taking it. But once I did, I stopped being mad. (As mad). I try to take a very small amount now within a multivitamin. However, I'm yet to hear of anybody else who took a high dose and went bonkers.
Who knew? I thought only DA drugs can make people bonkers. Thanks for the warning.
Quite sure it doesn't bother normal people. Turns out I'm not remotely normal, and all manner of things send me crazy when they shouldn't. Like sedatives for ops., where most people wake gently and hazily, and I wake up screaming at the top of my lungs and they have to pin me to the bed. Weirdo.
I have started taking it. I've think it seems to have helped a bit with my rls, but I have also upped my magnesium as well, so maybe it's a combination of the two that is helping.
I have also read that Vitamin K2 is important to take with Vitamin D.
I took an extra dose (glass phial ) of Vit D yesterday & still had RLS last night.
I take large doses of Vit D as well as being in as much sun as I can due to M.E. It has never made any impact on my RLS and I can only imagine that since I've not heard of Vit D to treat RLS that it may reduce depression and anxiety which may in turn allow people more peace in their minds and therefore their body.
As you need to have a decent level of Vit D then a supplement is required regardless of it helping RLS or not. I take a *4,000 iu* supplement daily in the morning. Sometimes I take a multi vitamin in the evening with more Vit D in it. Our bodies can tolerate a decently high dose and it is meant to protect against corona as well!
*Edit* 4,000 not 40,000 iu's sorry.
Thanks raffs. I use google scholar, and did a search on "Vitamin D Restless Legs Syndrome" and got over 18,000 hits. So I know there is a connection. The rest is just hope that maybe fixing my Vitamin D deficiency might help my consistently inconsistent RLS symptoms. It's 5:30am here, I have been up for a few hours. RLS actually woke me up. Normally that doesn't happen.
Damn in looking for Vit D and energy I completely missed Vit D and RLS info out there🙄🙄🙄 🙄.
And damn again it doesn't stop my RLS
I still would imagine that Vit D would help by reducing anxiety - when my anxiety levels are up so is my RLS; mind you when I am in my garden my RLS is lower. I thought it was distraction but maybe Vit D is the answer, its just a question of getting the dosage right, mmm food for thought.
Thanks for educating me, its a poor day you don't learn anything Please keep me informed of how you are getting on.
Vitamin D is needed by our bodies for making serotonin .. a different neurotransmitter in the brain from dopamine. It acts totally differently in the body too. The medics say that everyone living in the UK and Scandanavia etc etc tests low for Vitamin D in the Winter because we do not get enough sunlight on our skin. Low levels of Vit D are what cause Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) because we can't make enough Serotonin. By my consultant has told me to up my Vitamin D too.
I’ve been taking vitamin D for a couple of years on advice from my GP, after a blood test showed my level was low. No impact on my RLS I’m afraid.
vitamin B1 worked better in my case, but with ODA (more than 50mg a day).
I dont know if any medical evidence exists either way, but for me very good level of vitamin D in my blood hasn’t alleviated my RLS.
