Hi ,haven't been on here for a while but I have been reading with interest all the issues on RLS.can anyone please tell me if taking vitamin D can make RLS worse.ive started taking the vitamin about 2 weeks now ,I'm having a horrendous time with rls.im wondering if it has anything to do with me taking vitamin D.I haven't changed my diet or my medication ,I'm taking Pramipexole but haven't changed the dose so I'm assuming it must have something to do with taking the vitamin. I would be grateful for any advice.

I have read a research study on vitamin D and RLS.

It concluded that if somebody with vitamin D deficiency should correct the deficiency by taking a supplement it will IMPROVE symptoms.

If there is no deficiency it has no effect one way or the other.

It may be coincidental.

If you can't identify any other trigger then it could be the pramipexole that's the problem.

Thankyou Elffindoe,I did look it up and found just what you said regarding the vitamin D. I was intending to try and wean myself off Pramipexole but I'm soo blooming exhausted and feel this is not a good time to try.im in awe of sufferers who do it.Think I slept for about 1 hour last night,my legs are aching today because of all the horrible movements that I do while trying to get some ease.why oh why in this day and age is there nothing definite that can make our lives easier.

I have completely eliminated my RLS by following an anti-inflammatory diet and take daily vitaim D3 over the Winter as well as rainy Summer days when I don't get out of the house. It's essential for a healthy immune system and keeps away Seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

Thankyou Eryl,I've often thought that my diet is affecting my RLS as I seem to have bouts of terrible nights and then a calm time.my meditation hasn't changed so it's a great possibility that diet makes a difference. Can you please tell me where do I find information on an anti-inflammatory diet,I'm open to all advice .

An internet search should bring up many anti inflammatory diets if you need help to identify high carb and high GI foods. Often overlooked ones are bread and fruit juice.

I tested and was low in Vitamin D, I do take it (I should be more consistent). I do think it is beneficial for my RLS.

Thankyou Widebody,I suppose it's just down to each person how things effect us.i didn't get tested for vitamin D,I only started taking it because its coming into winter but I definitely think it made my rls worse. I didn't take it last night and I was ok.im gonna give the anti-inflammatory a try..

Hi,

Yes, I can tell you Vitamin D makes my RLS worse. An hour or 2 after taking a D vitamin, my head gets foggy, and my RLS gets worse. I know there are so many benefits from D, but over the years I've learned it only makes me feel worse. I take tramadol for RLS. Hope this helps.

Thankyou Jerry57,I would definitely say that taking it did make my rls worse.didnt take it last night and I was ok.I have been taking Pramipexole for a long time but its not helping at all.what is Tramadol used for ,I've never taken it but do read that a lot of sufferers find it helps.

Tramadol is a mild synthetic opiate which is used for pain. 20 + years ago I was diagnosed with RLS, and my Dr. prescribed mirapex (pramipexole), which did not help me. After months of trying different meds, he finally gave me tramadol which gave me immediate relief, and a good night sleep. I still take it today.
