RLS Relief

There's one medication I have taken that works 100% and has never failed...Valium. I was on the smallest dose and had zero problems. I have it so severe, I'm up till 3 am after going to bed at 10 PM, doing squats and running up and down the stairs trying to fatigue my muscles. I've cried and thought about how I want to chop my legs off. I had to come off of Valium when I was prescribed Adderall for Hypersomnia. I don't know which is more important to me, Adderral ot Valium. If I'm not on Adderral, I fall asleep driving. I had 3 accidents due to falling asleep with my eyes open. When I'm not on Valium, I can't go to sleep because I'm tortured by RLS. I really do mean tortured! I have tried OTC remedies like the leg cramp stuff, that's for RLS, but had zero relief. I was on requip, that made it worse, which I didn't think was possible. I've tried the Tens Unit, which only works while it's on. You can only use that for 2 minutes at a time and it turns off. I have a rough pillow I put between my feet and legs that I rub on. That works sometimes when it's not as extreme as usual. Problem with that is you have to rub your feet and legs against it until you pass out. For a while. The pressure of the weight of my husbands legs on my legs worked. That stopped working. I wrapped a bandage around my feet last night and that gave me some relief. Most nights I tense up my legs as tight as I can, and keep them tense until i pass out. That seems to actually make me pass out quickly, I'm not sure why. Nothing I try ever lasts. I've taken Magnesium and Potassium pills together that gave me 3 days of relief. I haven't tried it, but in my head, I'm convinced those things they put on bed ridden people's legs that inflate and deflate for blood flow would work. I want to try that. I'm struggling knowing Valium works 100% and I can't use it. Even while on Valium, I still had Hypersomnia, so the tiredness is not from not getting a good nights sleep.

Really sorry to hear your story. Such frustration!

I presume you have checked out all possible triggers. A food diary can help in sorting this out. It may be surprising to see some coincidences.

I know, even on opiates, I can get bad rls from unknown msg in processed foods that get by my defence systems.

Good luck.

Yes, I've even had a sleep study. I read something about gluten being a trigger, and I do eat a lot of that.

If you Google 'compression for RLS' or 'Intermittent compression for RLS' you will get a lot of medical hits. We all know that compression works if it's strong enough, why not have a machine do it instead of exhausting ourselves trying - or exhausingt our partner. Here is just one..........

Oh yes ... nobody here will dispute your description for RLS as torture. We all agree and totally understand perfectly. I must say, that in all the reading that I have undertaken since joining this website, I don't remember any discussion on the use of Valium against the fight against RLS. How interesting. Unfortunately for me I cannot take Valium ... I have taken it twice in my lifetime and those two nights I had the absolute worst horror-mares one could ever experience.

Not night-mares ... horror-mares. They were so bad that my mind has totally blocked them out and I cannot (thank god) remember them.
