Hi Beady, cases of augmentation have been reported from Tramadol but it is rare . Sometimes we jist have a bad night ,nothing seems to 100% of the time.Remember augmentation is very specific pattern not just a med failing occasionally. For augmentation symptoms must start earlier in the day than before treatment, symptoms must start after shorter periods of relaxation than before treatment and possibly spread into other body parts usually arms that it didnt do before treatment. So basically it eill be worse than when you started the med . Hopefully Beady it is just a bad night or you could be building up a tolerance to the Tramadol amd need a slightly higher dose but tolerance is different to augmentation. Hope you sleep soon lv pipps x
Morning Beady I sorry to hear you are not sleeping.
Won't say much about Tramadol I was on 200mg a day for 10 years it took 7 months to come of it I found the restless legs sweating and panic attacks as I was dropping down to come of it.
Only had excessive sweating when I first went on it.
Hope this helps.
Hi Beady3
I am wondering how long you have been taking Tramadol?
I was prescribed Ropinirole late 2013. However by default I was prescribed Tramadol after a 2012 operation and learned that Tramadol was a remedy for rls. So when augmentation occurs with Ropinirole I am able to reduce my prescription from two 0.5mg per day to one 0.5mg capsule plus one 50mg tramadol. It seems to work! In my experience augmentation occurs possibly once a month at which time I use both Tramadol & Ropinirole when necessary.
Hi Beady, I hope you have managed to get some relief by now?
I have been taking Tramadol for around 9 years now, 200mg slow release capsules twice a day, and sometimes 3 if I feel really bad. It has never had much effect on my RLS though, I have it for pain relief from Fibromyalgia.
About 4 months ago I started taking Ropinirole for RLS, 2 x 1mg around 9pm in the evening, and it has been a great help with RLS.
Hi, I'm on 1200mg a day now, they just upping it instead of sorting me out.. The night sweats are terrible I hate them so much x
Are you sure about that? I was under the impression the maximum daily amount is 400 mg and going over that puts you at significant risk of seizure.
Yes that's correct, I take 12 tablets 100mg 4 times a day x
Mollysdaughter, the dosage for Tramadol, is 100mg four times a day. So, you are taking way to much. I wouldnt keep on that dose. Go back to your doctor.
I HAVE to jump in here. 400 mgs is the absolute highest dose for Tramadol, whether you are in the US or the UK. The FDA says 400 mgs is the very highest dose advised. 1200 mgs, you are asking for big trouble down the road. I took 400 mgs for years, and it worked great for MY RLS. It did not help my back pain, and we eventually switched to stronger pain meds. But, we switched because NO doctor should ever prescribe THAT much Tramadol. look on the FDA web site fda.gov Also, see rxlist.com The high dose is the same world wide. So 1200 mgs is going to be an issue, and if anyone ever augmented on Tramadol, it may be you. Mollysdaughter- that is a dangerous dose, see the seizure warnings. I agree they are just upping the dose instead of "sorting" you out. IF your RLS is getting worse in that dose, it will only get "more worse". Good English, right? LOL But, seriously, that is not an acceptable dose, and even though it is a synthetic opiate, it is still an opiate and those night sweats are no surprise on that dose you are on. You need to print off some info for your doc and tell him you cannot stay on this high of a dose, and I have no idea how ANY doctor can sleep at night if he is writing that prescription for that dose. I know the drug well, and this is not a good idea at all. Like I said, down the road, if you are not augmenting now, you may be soon. It sounds like it to me, there is no way to avoid that on 1200 mgs. 3 x the highest dose is NOT good. Just keeping it real, but you cannot keep taking that. Better to take a lower dose of a stronger pain med.
Thank you - im off to see my doctor this afternoon so will let you know the outcome x
Well how did you get on at the docs was he helpful ? X
Hi beady, the doctor was useless 😨 he said if I want I can reduce to 800mg which means loosing 4 tablets a day, but I must try to ignore my rsl and my night sweats x
What a useless doctor.. Are you in the UK or the USA.
"Back to the usual" sounds like a clear indication that you've built up a tolerance to your current dose and it's no longer effective (vs augmentation, which is usually symptoms starting earlier and/or spreading to arms). When I was on tramadol, it worked like a miracle... for three months, then the dose would have to be increased. Once I got up to 200 mg, I figured it was time to find something else instead of increasing my dose again. I bet if you went up to 150 mg (or maybe even 125 mg), it would work like before. Unfortunately, it seems most meds come with a ticking clock - sooner or later, we have to change dose or find something new. Good luck.
Hi I have read all the replies with interest. I was on 200mg twice a day. I wanted to try and cut out some medication as my Doctor at the Pain Clinic said sort your meds to suit you. Anyway I reduced it to 1 200mg a day and felt no different. Anyway the question I would like to ask is does the Tramadol give terrible sweats. I have them and cant understand why. Its not the change as I am 67. lol x
Hope you are all coping today.
Best Wishes A xxxxxxx
I've heard some complaints about sweating on tramadol; somehow, I never got that side effect.
The sweating is a side effect from the Tramadol, it says in the leaflet. I only take one Tramacet (lower dose of Tramadol) and that one pill has given me massive sweats, mostly at night and i am 68 next month and my flushes had gone.!! grrrrr.
I am not on Tramadol any more, but on several other meds for RLS and some not, all have sweating as a side effect. I soak my bed, my hair, my jammies. I sometimes have to change 3 or 4 times a night and try and sleep with all this wet hair. Not fun at all.
Almost EVERY med lists sweating as a side effect, more do than not, that is for sure. My doctor did all kinds of tests on me, especially because of the night sweats. I went thru surgical menopause at the age of 29, so my night sweats are not related to that. My doctor finally gave up and said it has to be your meds, she even tested me for Lymphoma. So, yes, the meds can do that to you. rxlist.com or drugs.com both great web sites to look up side effects.
I take 100 mgs. every night. If I miss a dose, my legs get real restless and I have to get out of bed and take my pills.
Hi thank you for your reply. I am supposed to take a 200mg twice a day but I have cut one out. I still get very bad sweats but otherwise I dont think it has made any difference. When my legs start I take dihydracodeine . This works for me but I try not to take them on a regular basis.
