Yes Tramadol makes me extremely sleepy. I was prescribed it by my GP but had to take them back as the sleepiness was extreme and I couldn't function. She said some people are sensitive to them. The next time I had tramadol was after a replacement hip operation, when it didn't mattter that I slept most of the time! I now know I get the same reaction to any strong painkiller

Hi beady 3

I find it does the opposite to me so I have to take half a sleeping pill to counteract it. Having said that, I am also taking two tablets a day for my Arthritis (though these are prescribed, they are herbal) and a herbal fizzy drink for 'Cramp'. During the six years I have taken Tramodol I have not been able to come off these meds long enough to find out if the other meds are fighting the Tramodol effect of sleepiness so much that I end up 'sleepless' and need the sleeping pills. Also, I have not taken any 'caffeine' in the last 35 years except for one cup of tea first thing in the morning and one terrible mix-up 25 years ago.

One year on holiday in France I was with friends at a restaurant for my 40th birthday bash and the staff assured me that their coffee was 'decaf' so as I did not want to have any more booze I went on to 'decaf coffee' for the rest of the night. At age 40 I had never had one drop of 'drugs', not even one puff of a weed cig or any other made up cig, nor had I ever snorted anything - I was, and always had been, totally drug free but from the early hours the next morning and for about 48 hours after I was in a multicoloured far out world of my own, an experience I would not wish on my worst enemy. My friends looked after me, they all knew that I never drank to even a little excess so quickly realised it was the coffee. Now some 25 years later I can still make my 'no drugs' statement!

Just pointing out that others drinking that same coffee would probably not have had the same effect and that is true of Tramodol and all the thousands of meds that are prescribed each day and are taken by people whose lives are very different so effects can be so different. Just eating a banana by one of two people taking Tramodol may change the beneficial outcome for good or bad. There are many things we will never know - our bodies reactions can be so different.

I have been fearing my bodies reaction to Tramodol changing over the last few years but luckily that has not happened as yet but for many other Tramodol users it has. We all just have to plod on and hope for the best and deal with changes needed as and when that happens. Good luck to you beady 3.

There are doctors who have to prescribe one pill because it is so necessary and then they have to prescribe another pill to counteract the side effects. It's so evil that pain medicines can make us this tired. I do believe that new drugs are soon going to be on the market. XX

No new meds on the horizon as far as i know. :)

Hi,

I used to get that with the 50mg capsules but now I take the extended release form and the problem stopped. I also got better pain control as well.

Hi Beady, if you take a look at the patient information leaflet that comes with the tablets it should say if it is slow release tramadol, usually will say er(extended release).Or it may say on the front of the box.I think you take your tramadol at 5ish then 10ish? If so I doubt it will be slow release as they are usually taken with a longer gap between them as they obviously last longer.Glad your symptoms are still responding well to meds ..pipps x

Your all Tramodol Junkys HA HA

Hi Beady3, Tramadol is a prescription that relieves some moderate pain. Being sleepy is one of the side effects that we all wish that we could do without. If it's working good to settle the legs down, then you need to decide between 2 evils.. be sleepy and take the pill or don't take it and suffer. It's drastic, I know but the tiredness might fade after a week or so of use. The day might come that you wish that you could take more. The body gets very used to it.

in reply to mollymoomoo

I think Beadys 50mg is the lowest available dose that Tramadol comes in

in reply to mollymoomoo

Miss moly how are you.

i am sure you can get a lower dose you must go and see your doctor tell him how you feel i am sure he will give you a lower dose

in reply to mollymoomoo

As Elisse says you can get a lower dose tramadol mixed with paracetamol but tramadol alone goes no lower than 50mg.Some people take 25mg by cutting the pill in half

Have sent you message Beady3x

I take a lower dose of Tramadol, but it has Paracetamol in it. Its 37.5mgTramadol/325mgParacetamol. + i take a small amount of Pramipexole. I tried the 50mg Tramadol and it made me violently sick. So, i take two of those lower dosage Tramadol and no sickness.

Having said that above, i still can get sleepy in the day. But ALL meds for RLS make me sleepy the next day, and for me it doesnt wear off as time goes by. I have to "play around" with my meds to find what works for me.

Yea I took them they worked but when you come off them you get cold turky Iv got pregabilin now there seem better Try them 75 mg

I guess I must have a pretty high tolerance because they no longer make me sleepy. Well, it's hard for me to tell because I tend to be sleepy anyway. LOL. My nurse suggested taking just a half in the a.m. if the whole didn't work for me. And be sure to take them exactly 12 hours a part to keep an even/steady amount of the drug in your system. I take one in the a.m. and one at bedtime. This may help you as well.

Thanks for suggestion,I take 50mg capsuls so can't break one in half,I don't knowhow far apart I should take them, but the sleepy ness is very strong. Think I will have to go to docs don't want to Though,I did wonder if I should try taking tabs earlier in the day. What. Do you think Kim?
