Happy mothers day to all you mums . Have a happy one.
You fellas out there, have a good day even though its not fathers day.
First of all I want wish Buttons52 a BIG WELCOME to being a non-smoker today. We are all here for you, like john said yesterday you cant go wrong joining this forum. Be determined and positive.
This information may just help you to keep focused from a blog a few weeks ago.
Scientists claim the average smoker will lose 14 years of their life due to smoking.
Cigarettes contain more than 4000 ingredients which when burned produce over 200 `compound` chemicals. Many of these `compounds` have been linked to lung damage.
Approximately 20% of a cigarette is sugar. Many diabetics are unaware of this secret sugar intake.
The immune system of smokers has to work harder every day, than that of non smokers.
According to the World health organisation approximately 25% of cigarettes are smuggled.
`Lite`(lights) cigarettes are produced by infusing tobacco with CO2 and superheating it until it puffs up like expanding foam. The expanded tobacco then fills the same paper tube as regular tobacco.
Cigarettes contain arsenic, formaldehyde, lead, hydrogen cyanide, nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, ammonia and 43 known carcinogens.
Urea, a chemical compound that is a major component in urine, is used to add flavour to cigarettes.
Nicotine reaches the brain within 10 seconds after smoke is inhaled. It has been found in every part of the body and in breast milk.
Dont know what plans are for today, but if I have time I might just try for a Sunday matinee.
Anyone got any favourites?
Pete dont get carried away in that shed of yours , dont know what your going to do with all those dowels.
Off for a cuppa now.
So have a supercalafragalistic espialidosious SUNDAY!

Happy Mothers Day to you all....Its been great catching up on all the blogs as I don't get much time these days to come on here,,I am too busy at work...I am still going strong off the cigs,,9 weeks now and I am feeling better.. Buttons I too though it would be a nightmare giving up but coming on here and seeing everyone is in the same boat helped me get through it,,,HELLO to all the lovely people on here,,, Cath..x I am working again today..no rest for the wicked....lol x
Happy Mothers Day to you all, a lovely gift to your children is being a non smoking Mum However I went out on Hen Night last night and now have a slight hangover and the money it cost too, glad it is only once in a blue moon to go out on the razzle. Have a lovely day all. x x x
Morning Wonder, Your right it is a good feeling not smoking and not smoking near children. Hope your hangover goes soon. must have been a good night though.
Happy Mothers Day all us mummys Happy Sunday all you blokes
Buttons good luck today..take it nice and easy, lots of deep breathes and lots of finger tapping on here if needs be
I'm having a lazy day looking after a property and animals in the beautiful west meon countryside..we;'ve been out for morning walk and have afternoon walk to look forward to,pheasants have left the garden after their breakfast..heaven cant be much better than this
It's Sunday morning, 9.30 am, cold, wind and snow and I've failed before I've started as I have had a ciggie. So apologies to all you nice people and perhaps I am meant to smoke and die a horrible death as I'm not a good person.
• in reply to
Buttons you are NOT a horrible person, please don,t think like that, you are a human being and we all fail sometimes. Don,t feel guilty as that will make you get tensed up and smoke more, have some compassion for yourself. It,s not the end of the world you can only do what you can do. Tommorows another day and you can try again. There,s lots of people you don,t make it the first time, some try over and over again until they reach there goal. Don,t beat yourself up, you CAN do it.
Hi Buttons , like madimad says you are not a horrible person. Only thing horrible are those demon ciggys. You have to think your in control they aren`t. Like Emjay has always said if you give in to a craving think of it as a practice run for next time. I am sure Emjay will be contacting you tomorrow. She will be able to give you advice and help. Keep on this site and you will be a non smoker we all promise. xx
Hi Buttons, stop the self beat up as everyone has said you are not alone, not the first nor the last..Ive been on off for the last few weeks..at the moment Im working on my next quit day, trying to understand my triggers,my motives. Youve come here because you want to stop Nic..so stay and you will Have a relaxed day, refocus, but above all be nice to yourself big hugs xx jan
oh and Buttons..nobody is meant to smoke ..otherwise we would have had chimmneys in our heads xx
Thank you to both madimad and jillygirl for your kind words and support. I celebrate my 58th birthday two weeks tomorrow and the thought of being able to say I do not smoke on that day is a lovely one and I do so hope I can make it come true. I have a doctors appointment 4 days before to see if the new tablets I am taking for my 'disease' are working or if not, they will probably change the dosage again. If I can stay of the cigs perhaps I can report to the doc that I have been smoke free for 9 whole days and the tablets are working but getting stressed does not help my condition and even though I know that it is very difficult not to get that way. I had a really bad attack on 31st Jan but luckily a lovely couple in a car stopped and rang my hubby to come and get me. The most frightening part about that attack was even though I have had them in the past they have never before been so severe - one minute I am upright and walking to work and the next I'm thinking to myself that the pavement looks close and then I'm flat out on it! Most people assume that I'm drunk (yes at 8 o'clock in the morning!) but lucky for me the couple that helped didn't and were extremely kind even stopping the traffic after I had got in our car so that himself could turn round and take me home. What's really terrifying about this attack was if I had been 3 foot to my right when I went down, only my feet would have been on the pavement the rest of me would have been in the road and I really, really do not want to have another like that. I am 99.9% certain that smoking does not help me at all and I want to draw my state pension for a good number of years having paid in for 44 years and not now being able to draw it until I'm 66! I am sure it is a mind thing but I'm frightened two ways - frightened to carry on smoking and frightened to stop! It's no fun being human and getting old!
Thanks to thenunn as well - we're all in this together I've now found since I came on this site so I'll put the stick away and focus. Thank you.
Happy Mums day to the mums, and happy 'non-Mums' day those who aren't mums
My daughter bless her, gave a me a huge card and a cup and yet another key ring, tis a standing joke, I ALWAYS get a key ring! She also got me, what she thought, was a balloon in a box, however she had just bought the box, we fell about laughing when I opened the box to discover it was empty lol it's a lovely box and I can put my bling in it! I also got my lovely Orchid. She then made me a coffee (decaff, am still off caffeine) and toast, the sweetie that she is. She is now upstairs doing homework etc, she's cooking tea later, chicken curry with rice and naan bread.
I've had a very productive morning, just waiting for the next batch of washing to dry, so I can iron it. I want it all done and put away today as the decorator is here on Weds.
I've got my 7 day ambulatory heart monitor on, it's a bloody nuisance, but hey ho, it comes off on Thursday morning! I'm also at the hosp tomorrow for a stress echo thingy, where they scan your heart and have you performing on a treadmill! They did mention an injection to induce an increased heart rate, but they have got more chance of plaiting fog than me having an injection of dye, when I am perfectly capable of running!
Buttons, I have tried to give up smoking more times than I can remember, you will do it, when you're ready chuck!
I have been stopped for just over 6 months now and I am amazed at my 'won't' power, I don't call it willpower, 'cos that means I will do it lol
All credit to you that you have recognised that you need to stop smoking, it just takes some longer than others and we've all had glitches I'm sure!
I saw someone who I work for on Wednesday last week, we're usually like ships that pass in the night, I left her a spray and patches that I never used, and left her little notes. She said that she loved my subtle hints (ha!) and she has been stopped smoking for 2 weeks, and she has tried lots of times before. She loves the mouth spray and she also uses one of those E- cigs. I also think that it can be trial and error when you first decide to give up as what NRT suits you best. I tried patches, sprays, gum etc but the best for me was the lozengers.
Happy- A big well done on 9 weeks!
Jilly- Oooh a Sunday matinee sounds good! We watched Sleepless In Seattle, Mama Mia and Maid in Manhattan last weekend!
Hi chickles, I cant believe its 6 months that youv`e stopped now, it seems to have flown. there again i have been pre occupied over the last 3 months. lol.
No going back now well done.
sounds like your daughter has made your day. empty box ! thats original.
Have a lovely day. Hopefully will get time to find some videos for this aft.
Just going out for a short walk whilst the sun has made an appearance. see you soon. xxxx
It's great to have you back on top form! I shall have a look at the vids later!
Hope that you have a super duper Mothers day too!
My tumble dryer decided to leak water! A blockage with fluff somewhere no doubt. I took off the bit that holds the hose in place by unscrewing it, oops, couldn't get it back on lol My daughter bless her did it, after 20 minutes and we were collapsed in laughter. She has banned me from doing anything else to it and I've rung my lovely washing machine etc repair man. Fortunately the last load is now drying and it's okay to use it! Just the garage floor is a bit wet! At least it'll be fixed by Tuesday. Isn't it amazing how we rely on things like tumble diryers, washing machines, dishwashers etc
Just got back from visiting my mam, she seemed a lot more chirpier today I was just about to leave and they bought her dins in to her, so I stayed and fed her, she didnt eat much, but she et some, so thats good they say she has medium to severe dementia now so will have to see how she goes.
Rite am off to get a erm erm a cuppa and see what the goss is for today back in a bit

I hope you all had a great day love all the clips you put on Jillygirl, i needed the laugh, been feeling awful all day, the painkillers i got did not help one bit. I 'm glad your mum was cheerier today Pete
Hi Sue, sorry your not too good today. cant you get any stronger pain killers or does the doc say different. Like my daughter she cant have any painkillers until after her endoscopy on friday. I tell you we all need a good shake up. At least we dont have to worry about the nasty ciggys.
Catch up later. Take it easy love. Hope you get sorted soon. hugs and cuddles. xxxxxxxxx,
Hey Pete are you a mind reader, Andi has just sent me a message. Yep she is fine. She suggested I put a tag on my story about my year of quitting etc. So now its jillys story. You see andi always is the brainy one.
Geraniums I love deep red ones and the white ones. I shall miss my gardening, however I think after my op I wouldnt find it easy anymore. I shall just have to potter . (like an old lady)
I'm not allowed stronger ones either till i've seen doc on Thursday, it can't come quick enough, I'm hoping i'll be better tomorrow
I hope your daughters endoscopy goes okay and they get to the bottom of the problem, i'll keep my fingers crossed for her, i know how bad that pain can get
