Hi JessicaJaynee90, welcome to our on-line stop smoking community.
Congratulations on making the decision on wanting to stop smoking, one of the best decisions you can make for yourself
I'm sure we'll be able to help you out, either by supporting you on-line or by referring you onto your local stop smoking service. You can even recieve support both ways
If you send me a PM with your postcode, I'll see where you can get face to face help and support. I'm sorry to hear that your GP hasn't been able to suport you in the way that would be expected and am surprised that he wasn't able to direct or refer you onto anywhere.
Anyways, you've come to the right place now and we'll help you all we can
Well done on making the best decision ever like Emjay, i don't understand why your gprs can't help you but this is the place to be, you'll get loads of info and help, if you join us on the daily chat you'll get a few laughs as well
They are suppose to encourage people to stop smoking not simply tell them no theres nothing
So anyway Im taking champix, you get it on prescription from the doctor, at the moment I have stopped smoking for 4 weeks on Tuesday. There are a few other people on here that is using champix too.
There are patches too, by reading some posts on here I think you can get them on prescription too but maybe Ive misread that.
There are loads of things out there at the moment, have you tried your local pharmacist?
Im also using a ecig at the moment but going down to the lower stregnth soon to wean myself off that, I dont want to subsitute one for the other.
For a start, you have come to the right website as the support and encouragement I have received is enough to make me want to cry. I've never known such a bunch of helpful and caring people who really know where I am at regarding smoking and I feel with them around me, I am winning all the way.
Maybe, next time you're round at the Doctors, you could knock him off his chair with a salmon and tell him if he does't do anything, next time it will be a basking shark.
I bought some NRT lozenges 2Mg from my local chemists. They are cheaper than fags and they have been doing the trick for me. (I've smoked for over 40 years).
But as already mentioned, the support from my fellow quitters has been so powerful. Give it a whirl and good luck.

There are many different products on the market available to help smokers to quit. Many of which you can purchase yourself from your local pharmacy, supermarket or even over the internet.
However, to enable any of your local Stop Smoking Services to prescribe them to you they have to be approved and regulated by the Medical & Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency.
Please find below a list of products available and details of the recommended dosage;
If you have any questions regarding any of these products please ask

Like you I`ve decided to quit but support from gp wasn`t good, I also had the problem that having set appointments every week on a certain day difficult. Today I went to Tesco`s pharmacy and found you could drop in any day/time . The pharmacist saw me straight away and spurred me on so much , I felt so supported , she gave me a tester of a lozenge , I was amazed they didn`t taste bad at all and I didn`t even fancy a cigarette for 3 hrs, she also gave me the mouth spray to use as I felt I needed a backup . I`ve decided my quit day is Monday as we talked about this site and she said they were a great support and added to success stories. I`m so determined now and really believe I can do it . Sorry everyone you`ll probably hear lots off me as I have no one else to support me !!

Like you, I didn't have anyone to support me and I couldn't have done it without the lovely people on here. You'll have lots of ups and downs along the way and we'll be here to help you.
Good luck with your quit - Day 1 on Monday - I was so jittery once I decided but am now over 9 months quit. See you again soon, Andi
