Well, it's very quiet on here today so I thought I'd open the daily chat with this picture to brighten up this dreary, drizzly day. Bet someone beats me to it while I'm writing this :) Hope you're all feeling well and are obviously all very busy at this moment in time. Going to post this now in case we end up with two daily chats.

Just noticed an article in Boots Health and Beauty magazine entitled "Yes, you can comfort eat (and still be healthy)". Now that sounds like a plan so will be having a quick read of that in a minute. I really have been eating far too much this last two weeks so am off out in a bit to buy some apples, grapes and some fresh orange juice. I love apples and haven't had one for ages since I had my teeth scaled far too many times by mad dentist. So I'm going to try them again now my teeth are feeling much better.

Good Morning sinfree,

I love your picture :) I've had a bit of a lie in today, didn't want to get out of my cosy bed into the cold :D :D even though it is sunny here :)

I love the sound of that Boots article, that's just what I need to do before I get anymore roly poly :D :D :D I'll need to go looking for it and get started, for some reason I keep saying I'm gonna diet but never get started :o :D

I hope you all have a good day today, away to put the kettle on if anyone wants a cuppa :)

oooh, choccie biscuits. I had one and a half crumpets this morning - yummy and I seem to recall Warburtons saying they're low fat - haha maybe they're biased being as they make them. Aww Sue52 am well jell as the saying goes, you have sunshine? It's been miserable here since I got up, I am terrible for suffering sunshine envy as we hardly ever have any.

Good afternoon sin and Sue, yes it's a grey one here too and trying to drizzle. That pic is a good reminder of summer though - can you remember when you could last walk on grass without going "squelch, squelch" ? :D :D

No choccy biccies for me ta Sue - am just munching on a carrot as part of my lunch. :) As for crumpets - I'm sure they might be low fat but who could ever eat them if they're not dripping in butter! :D :D Mmmmm ......

in reply toandi22

hi andi oh yeah I forgot about the butter, it was utterly butterly though. Yes that pic was taken on 1 July 2011, I think that was probably the last time the grass didn't go squelch.

Hi everyone,

I though you would have got more sunshine than me sinfree, I'm in Dundee, we mainly get the wind off the north sea, it chills your bones :D :D As for the crumpets, I'd go with what Warburtons say :D you can't beat a crumpet, with the butter Andi :D, although i should be munching on the rabbit food like you :D :D, I;m sure you'll lose weight before me though, so maybe i should :D :)

I have to say I can't remember when i walked on the grass Andi, think we need a lot longer with no rain, like that's gonna happen :D :D

ARGHHHHHHHHHHH the hubby being a prat again.

Giving me a lecture on spending money but wanting to take 4 trips to town this week when we dont need to (40 mile round trip)

Told him I would go buy fags if he wanted to waste all that money.

He just doesnt frigging see what I do around here to save money, wear clothes I have had for 8 years and second hand, am stopping smoking (3 weeks on Tuesday) sit in a dark/cold house damn near the while frigging time, I make the kids wear their clothes till they are DIRTY, only get to wear clean socks/pants daily, we only shower 2-3 times a week to save on toilitries, I buy own brand food/toilitries and he gets mad that I spend money

Really if he aint home im quite happy and can cope with the not smoking well vut he just riles me up something cronic

So what a lovelyweekend Im having

sue52 profile image

First Sarah well done on not smoking :) you show him your a strong woman, you can do this :)

I'm sorry you having a bad time with your hubby, men can be so selfish sometimes, why does he not know that you sit in a cold dark house, which you shouldn't do especially with the winters you get up there, stay strong Sarah, big deep breaths, you can do this :)

Orkneysarah profile image
Orkneysarah25 Months Winner

He does know and says 'I dont tell you to do it' but when the bills come in or he looks on the bank statements I get 'we've got no money, what you spending it all on'

So Im doing my damndest to save money and watch what we spend but he just aint seeing thst I am and getting hell for doing so

At the moment I am really thinking I could just walk out and keave everything.

Then maybe he would see that its not me thats spending all the money

Hey hey, steady on Sarah, just calm down a bit eh :) this is life gal, we all have to take the rough with the smooth, thats if we get any smooth :o :)

Look you all know us blokes are thhhhhick, cant you both sit around a table and write down your incomings, then your outgoings and see what you have left :) see where the money is going too :o then perhaps you and Stew can work something out from that eh :) :) I know its hard gal, cos ave bin there a few times myself :(

Dont forget Sarah while you are quitting you might get short tempered :( this does happen, so just try to keep calm, try one of Emjays breathing blogs :)

Nooooo we do that a lot, money is always a major fight in this house.

Im giving up fags, heat, food, quite a lot, he doesnt like it when I pick him up on it, thats the main thing, he said now I have stopped smoking he can now afford to do things he couldnt before

I just aint going to bother wasting my time bothering to talk coz he just see's that its me in the wrong, I just give up with him.

Next months boot sale will hopefully get rid of a lot of stuff in our attic, going to sell what he got for his xmas too coz he doesnt seem to be bothered with them....... now that was a wasteof money that I did spend

monky profile image
monkyAdministratorCake sniffer outer in reply toOrkneysarah

Hi Sarah,

Yeah sadly it does sound as if he is a very selfish man :( you will just have to keep the cash you save hidden from him eh :) and hopefully that boot sale will bring a good bit in for you :) :) then go and treat yourself with it :) :) :) :)

Yeahyour righg john, my efforts are not appreciated, only I can seem to contribute to saving money in this house and be made to feel like a worthless piece of rubvish but hey I married the arse so I suppose I should just shut up and put up with it

Orkneysarah profile image
Orkneysarah25 Months Winner

I got £40 from him yesterday so when the dinner money and boys brigade money has been taken out of that the rest is going in my no smoking jar, I WILL be raking money out evrry week and putting it in my jar and any money that comes un this house that is extra will be going in there too and IF we do have a holiday this year that is MY money to spend on ME and Im still remembering about the £150 birthday money that got spent on grocery shopping or xmas pressies ;)

Sorry for being such a pleep, it just weekends are hard with him being home

monky profile image
monkyAdministratorCake sniffer outer in reply toOrkneysarah

There's no need to be sorry Sarah, and your not a pleep :D :D :D erm what eva one of those is :D :D

You stay strong gal, your doin just ace with your quit :) :) and dont let the old man grind you down :o OK !!!! and thats an old man saying that too :D :D

Orkneysarah profile image

A pleep means a moaner and I am one at the moment, I know Im a bit irritable coz of no smoking but Im great when Im with just the kids or other people, just not him.

Just going to avoid him, thankfully Im usually sleeping before him so dont need to worry about conversation then

Got a spare room so might even move in there to teach him a lesson, think thats the best idea Ive had in a while ;)

Loving the photo of the fruit.... our fruit bowl is lovely and full again, had some peedie oranges last night, the pears were a bit hard yet so looking forward to them....... Im getting through my peanuts, got some monkey nuts too that I should be munching on since the hamster died and nobody else will eat them :)

I have raken some homemade lentil soup out of the freezer for lunch tomorrow and I will have a lovely bacon, lettuce and tomato sarnie to go with that (kinda healthy) and for tea I will make homemade pizza (took a portion of pizza sauce out of freezer too) so a easy day for cooking tomorrow, just a dough to make and a salad to go with the pizza maybe

I have found that my pizzas are not greasy (apart from the cheese but I dont put too much cheese on)

Ive got LOADS of eggs too so will start the day off with 1 egg scrambled on a bit of grannary toast, some trainer on the tv said that you should start your day with protine because it was better for you, it didnt tun into fat like other foods :)

Going to browse for healthy meal ideas that can do for the whole family, getting fed up of veg/lentil soup and stir frys or vegetable based teas lol

in reply toOrkneysarah

Yes to the scrambled egg for brekkie Sarah, though I don't like scrambled egg myself - yuk. Protein based foods are good because they always seem quite filling and last for ages before you go hungry again. I also read today in the Boots article I mentioned that if you're using cheese, go for the very strong tasting ones as you won't need to use much to get plenty of taste. I got some grape and apples today and have managed to eat nothing with chocolate in it today. Had a brilliant tea tonight - a proper northern tea though not very low on calories :o but never mind, everything was grilled. Two sausage, smoked bacon, beans, mushroom and oven chips and a glass of Kentish Ale - very nice it was too. Discovered beer is far better than wine for not making me want to smoke.

Oh I have pigged out today, weekend healthy eating isnt going good

Ive pigged out on bacon and just had some crisps :(

Im lucky that I dont really like chocolate so I wont go pigging out on that, its the carbs thats my downfall, breads, crisps and rolls and oh boy cheese, dont even go there!! I love cheese on anything!!

I really need to do some more research on this I think, find out what is good and at what times etc

in reply toOrkneysarah

bacon is good as long as the fat is cut off (I don't practice what I preach :-) )as it has protein in it and therefore satiates you appetite. Crisps as you probably know are the worst, you don't get much for your calories. Just don't buy them, though I suppose that's difficult when you've got children. I am currently eating some grapes trying to decide whether to eat the rest of my tin pineapple or have a sultana scone from Morrisons.

Orkneysarah profile image
Orkneysarah25 Months Winner in reply to

Oh I cut EVERY little bit of fat off the bacon coz I HATE it, I hate fat on any meat, so that is good.

Yah I know crisps are the worst :( even if I had 1 square of chocolate it would prob be better than the crisps, the kids usually only have the crisps for their play piece and I buy only to cover the week/month of the ones they like, I'll just have to stop buying the ones I like, that was the last of mine tonight so NO MORE CRISPS :)

nothing to do with smoking this one, but did any one watch dancing on ice. I missed the first few but have just seen the review of everyone at the end. Him out of East Enders skated to a piece of music that I absolutely love, its from a ballet I think, did anyone watch and does anyone know what the music is called?

sue52 profile image
