Pain in my finger joints.

Before quitting, When the Nic content ran low, a strange twitch developed in my fingers joints, and I had to snap my fingers (or toes). I have quit all forms of Nicotine for a month now and all this time I have a permanent dull pain in all my finger joints (nothing in toes). And the urge to snap fingers or to bite the elusive nails is so intense that I bend them hard and so often that it is painful. I do not realise till after I snapped or bent my fingers.

However, I have not seen myself doing such things to my thumbs, which hurts the most.

Any one has any ideas or similar experience, please tell me about it.

Thanks Pete. Appreciated. By the way, it is a very dull and continuous pain and there is absolutely no swelling or any visible abnormality. Found that another person had the same issue. forums.webmd.com/3/smoking-...

Good Evening Jai,

Well done to you for continuing to stay stopped, you should be so proud of yourself.

I have to say that I've never heard of this before, however after just reading the 2nd link that you have posted, I do recognise that this is a common symptom with the listed conditions - this also includes Rheumatoid Arthritis (not listed). As you have probably already guessed, smoking will contribute to the enhancement of most (if not all) of these conditions and it is in the recipients best favour that they quit.

I shall look into this further and see if I can get some more information that will be of more use to you than I can advise at the moment.

Lovely to hear from you and keep up the good efforts :D

Thanks a ton Pete and EmJay.

Will do those exercises. I am not going back to smoking ever again. (at the least I have developed such a hatred for the habit that, I don't see myself taking soft sticks in my mouth for a month, Beyond that I hope and pray I can hold). It is so stupid but it takes only one cigarette to bring back the beast.

Hi Pete

I think you have hit the answer. I am on Chantix. However it is not mentioned as one of the side-effects in its leaflet. I think though the twitch in the joints would happen every time I was low on Nicotine, the pain actually started when I started taking the drug. I hope it is only temporary. A bit of a research along this line, and I find that for most (>98%) the pain did go away after 6 months, but for a few it resulted in aggravating problems in joints. Some have to be treated for Raynauds. The first week with this drug was horrible as I had extreme drowsiness. After which getting sleep is so... difficult. Looks like the sooner I quit the drug, the better. If there is a Chantix page I am gonna post this there. (Well, cant find any).

By the way, Sorry to disappoint you, I am a lad, not a "dy". Thanks a million. Atleast I know the cause now.

My first question asked on this site was about having pins and needles in my fingers and them feeling fat .... that is now a distant memory.... and keep talking to us all as you will get over these niggles and be a happy non smoker with normal hands, honest

Thanks Pete and Wonder. I have almost stopped taking Chantix (except once or twice a week). And there is no more pain.

Hey, that also makes me using no aid in quitting (Given that 2 Chantix per week is immaterial against the prescribed 2 per day).

God, I am sooooo in love with life again. Love you all !!!
