Hi Robson2732,

welcome to our online stop smoking community. Well done to you for making that all time healthy commitment to yourself. I'm sure you will find that some of our members have gone through the same as you have in the past or are about to, next week.

What has been your experiences of quitting in the past?

Evidence shows that if you use extra support from somebody like ourselves (Quit Support), or your local stop smoking service, then your are 4 times more likely to be quit at 4 weeks. You are also more likely to increase your chances of staying stopped by using some form of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), just as long as you use it properly.

However, if you are absolutely sure that you don't want to use anything then let us help you plan towards your quit date on Monday as planning will ensure that you are ready for the exciting roller coaster journey ahead :D

Have a read through the following blog as this will start you off in the right direction of your quit day :D

Hi there robson2732 and welcome to our community. If you really want to stay quit this time then please come on here and join in the daily chat, whether you're feeling on top of the world or you're having a crap day you can shout about it on here and we'll do what we can to help.

I too went down the cold turkey route as I didn't want to get a replacement crutch and then struggle ditching that one and I'm proud to say that with the help of all the lovely people on here it will be my 6 month anniversary tomorrow.

Perhaps you can read through some of the archives to pick up some helpful tips over the weekend in preparation for Monday.

Good luck, Andi :)

Aup Robson, great to see you here :)

I'm on my 4th attempt to quit and as everybody says on here when I've relapsed, that was a practice run, so the more practices you have the more you know what to expect, so you get wiser to the cravings etc :)

But i do know that you have to really want to quit to do it, as I am this time :) I think the others have said the rest, so good luck for Monday, you know yourself that you CAN do it :)

Pete :)

Hi Robson,

Good luck for Monday, I tried to give up 2 or 3 times before as well, one time something bad happened and I panicked and started again another time I thought well now I know I can do it I can do it again... It doesn't matter. I am doing it again, feel much more confident this time.

Not sure if these will help but maybe worth a look:

I did a timeline today about smoking. You get a piece of paper draw a line accross it horezontally (the timeline) and write significant events over your life to do with smoking so I started with early childhood being very anti smoking, then late teens trying it out, then at around 18 / 19 became addicted, cut down to 10 a day as had crap job and no money, then changed to roll ups, later re-trained got new job, wanted to change image, then quit attempts etc etc. hope that makes sense you put what ever you feel is helpful on it along with either the year or approx age until you get to the present..

2 things jumped out at me: Firstly I have been smoking for exactly half of my life which really hit home. Secondly when looking at the previous quit attempts I realised I didn't really want to give up, I was doing it because people told me to, it was socially less acceptable, it didn't fit well with my new career etc. but I still wanted to smoke. I think you really need to want to give up and to do it for yourself not for anyone else.

Anyway listen to everyone's advice and then decide what works for you. Good luck.
