Working on trying to get to a quit date..

I'm new, but this looked like a good, fun, positive place. I'm from the US, but just felt kinda comfortable here. Beginning work on prepping for a quit day... and it looks like maybe...??? early April or sooner, possibly..?

Am I OK to post on somebody else's post, to become part of 'chit-chat'? May be a great place to relax, and possibly vent and look for solutions to quit problems!

Hi Wildo and a warm welcome to quit support

Monky has given you some great advice.

Feel free to join in anywhere and vent all you like.

We have members from a range of different countries, I myself am in Australia :) :)

Just click on the reply to reply to anything that has been said :) :)

We are pretty friendly bunch of people who are all at various places on our quit journey..we all have been where you are now and understand all the concerns etc.

My advice is make a plan..identify your reasons for wanting to stop smoking and make the commitment.. You will go through a roller coaster of emotions both physical and psychological as you body adjusts to life without cigarettes..BUT....on saying that it is so worth all the hard yards at the start :) :)

I am 19 months quit from smoking 30 a day for 40 years..quit cold turkey...So yes it is doable :) :) ..just takes the commitment and self belief :) :)

All the very best of luck :) :)

Thanks! I'm on a roller coaster right now, with the ...I want to quit..no, I don't, ...yes, I do, ..Geez, can I do it? I should quit...I need to quit... what a good example it would be to grand children... how much easier it would be for me to breathe and walk... I'm going to quit... how am I going to do it?... I can do it... maybe later... which is part of why I picked user name of .."willdo"..!

Hi willdo,

Please quit for yourself..... I'm breathless after 3 flights of stairs.... I want my energy back that's for sure..... You're worth it..... Depression can make us feel we're not worth it ( speaking from experience ) After my soulmate passed tragically 3 years ago , I gave up on life and became a chain smoker ..... So smoking for me is more of a psychological crutch....

Soooo.......Get your patch ready or Nicotine gum and join us on our quit smoking journey!!!!!!!!

OMG!!! You so should !!! If walking is an issue !!! I have burgess and prinzmetal and raynauds. (Won't bore you with details!!) but all circularity. I could barely walk up the stairs!!! Within a few weeks (which admittedly were hell! But soooooooo worth it!!) I was walking riding a bike swimming climbing a rock wall playing snowball fights etc etc !!! I now do at least 10,000 steps a day minimum and love the new freedom!!! Go for it! Your grand kids are in for such a treat!!! Xx

Well done Jaglan, you've given willdo a wonderful example of all the good reasons for quitting, thankyou for being a great example๐Ÿ˜Š

jaglan, may I ask your ...(approximate) age and how long you were smoking?

willdo profile image
willdoโ€ข in reply tojaglan

I just looked up prinzmetal, raynaurds, etc., and you can actually ride a bike now and swim and do 10,000 steps? That would be the most substantial encouragement I could grab onto, as I have a ...kinda difficult time... right now doing a 13 step staircase into the house..

jaglan profile image
jaglan22 Months Winnerโ€ข in reply towilldo

hey Willdo!! Yep that'll be 1 0 0 0 0 steps except today, had to go out at 7pm tonight in the midst of storm Henry to make sure I made the last 5000. Spent most of the day in the car. I would have been in bed by 7pm 6 months ago, totally exhausted. In fact as I just looked at my vivosmart watch thingy I've actually done more than I should by 400 :-)

My staircase is 13 seps too and 7 months ago I truly was knackered by the time I reached the top. Im nearly 53 and my new smoke free life is unrecognisable. I'm not saying it was easy, it was't!!!! Take a look through some of my seriously miserable posts back in July last year!!!! One thing is for sure Willdo, if you are having trouble with walking and energy, then I PROMISE stubbing out Mr Nic is just the beginning of a new freedom you think you can never have back. YOU WILL be proud every day that you fight the addiction and as the days slowly pass, your energy levels will increase. You will be bounding up the stairs!!! I now run up and walk down at least 10 times a day. Does my jelly legs in but its laughable really. I truly felt 100 waiting to pick up a zimmer frame, now I feel I could and will try anything. Legal that is!! xxx

Hey Arizona, thank you for such lovely words!!! Your response inspires me to carry on too!!!! I think this site is a circle of inspiration. Each and every one of our 'stories' is connected by one thing. The genuine light switch moment of

"What genius invented this glorious smoke that I can choke down into my lungs, feel it worm it's way round my blood vessels and sap the life out of me?"

Please god help me stop!!

I think that sums up our connection?? The rest is a personal journey we have chosen to take. One which we share with each other to gain confidence, recognition and support. One where we find ourselves reading others tough trials and realise we are not alone.

We stop, we cry, we shout, we share, we hear we listen we see and we in turn speak to those stopping. GENIUS!!!!! xx

Hiya willdo and welcome to quit support๐Ÿ˜Š

Youve got lots of good advice already, there's no good reasons for smoking but lots of good reasons for stopping and the sooner the better๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Good luck๐Ÿ€

Well willdo you have definitely come to the right place ๐Ÿ˜Š

Quitting isn't easy but it is the very best thing you can do for your health๐Ÿ˜Š

The sooner you quit the quicker you become a non smoker, you no longer inhale 4000+ toxins (incl formaldehyde) your health begins to improve, you no longer smell, your teeth, gums, hair and skin improve.... Your risk of serious smoke related illnesses decreases ๐Ÿ‘Your finances improve but best of all you get to make fantastic smoke free memories with your family especially your grandchildren ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

good luck with your quit we are all behind you ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿšญ๐Ÿšญ๐Ÿšญ
