Today is day 3 smoke free.. I’m having a hard time with my breathing. I feel like I can not get a good deep breath. This was not like this before I stopped smoking. Anyone else have a problem like this? Kinda making me nervous.. thanks

Welcome Kodabear, What you describe is very normal. When you first quit your lungs are getting rid of all the toxins , this produces mucus which in turn irritates the cillia (tiny hairs) which then makes you short of breath. Try the deep breathing exercises in the pinned post this will help your lungs clear quicker. Also drink plenty of water,

There are lots of tips and information in the pinned posts.

I will assign you your progress badge and add you to our database.

Lovely to hear from you and look forward to supporting you. :) xx

Hi Kodabear and welcome to Quit Support🚭✅

Well done for making the best decision for your future health👍🏼

Please have a look at the pinned posts as there’s great info for breathing techniques there.

We never really breathed properly when we were smoking and they actually put something in them to widen the airways, so we could inhale deeply😩

Try not to worry as this is a common side effect and many people suffer with this when they first stop smoking.

Practicing the breathing techniques will really help.

If you are worried it’s always a good idea to get checked out by your Doctor.

This is a great community with lots of lovely people who have all been where you are now.

Stay close and keep up that great quit, you’re doing really well🙌xx
