I quit smoking on 12/05/2015 after smoking 48 years. I went to a 6 week free program the State of Florida. They gave me the NRT patches for a month. 2 weeks of 21 mg, 2 weeks of 14 mg. Since I was such a heavy smoker I am staying on the 21 mg for 6 weeks

Hi ya Pstevens, a big warm welcome to our lovely quit support community :) and thats fantastic news that you have decided to quit the smokes and for over 2 weeks too :) :) As you can see, I have sorted a 2 weeks Winner badge out and have your quit date logged in now :)

I see that you've met some of our lovely members already :) and your from the united States then, we have a few members from their, soooo, you will feel at home here :) :)

Here in the UK, our quit smoking programs are normally for 12 weeks, this normally consists on 4 weeks on the high nicotine patches, then 4 weeks on a lower dose one, then 4 weeks on the lowest dose one :) plus we get another NRT supplement, like the quickmist mouth spray, or gum, etc, just to help us in them bad times :)

Please, please, if you need any help, just you shout out, cos thats what this lovely community is all about, helping each other to quit the smokes and become FREE again :) :) and if you just fancy a chat, then please doooo, cos it all helps :)

Hope to speak soon :)

Pete :)

Quit date was the 15th January and yes we are treating ourselves this weekend, we are going up to London to see a group that we follow, its an Eagles tribute band called Talon. There are eight of us going so should be good fun, having a meal up there as well.

So this Quickmist spray, do I get it at the chemist.

We went to the doctor about packing up and he said that he would get someone to get in touch with us with help, well this women phoned and Chris my husband told her how long we hadn't smoked and she said "Oh well you are almost there then, the nicotine will be out of your system now so carry on as you are" So much for helping , we are on our own now.

Thank you NHS

Terry

I'm still on 21mg patches and not got smoking cessation appointment til 4th Jan now it is the intention that I move to 14mg then so that will be about 8 weeks in. I don't think it matters as long as u stop smoking. ๐Ÿต๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ™๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿญ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿฐ

Your right, it's Horses for courses Andrew ....... it's interesting that in the States it's a 4 week programme but 12 here! The thing about patches is you can stay on them until your ready to come down a dose ๐Ÿ˜ƒ you just have to do what works for you ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ

Andrew-S profile image
Andrew-Sโ€ข in reply todroopyJ

Yeah they are harder in the states and no NHS to pay for healthcare so u can only have 8 weeks nrt. It does cost a lot of money I'm glad I don't have to pay its 40 quid a week for mine. I'm building up a huge stash ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿญ๐ŸŒฒ
