So I am approaching the two month mark of my quit smoking journey. I am now having Thyroid issues, can't sleep and have put on 12 pounds. I am starting to wonder why I quit! I felt better and healthier when I smoked than I do now!

Hi SmokyCat, 2 months is a fantastic achievement. Its surprising how many people think and say they felt better when they smoked. Smoking only masks ailments, you would have the problems whether you smoked or not.
I felt just the same I had quit for approx 10 months then found out I had lung cancer. I ended up having my lung removed. I commented to the doctor I felt better when I smoked. He pointed out you may think that , but you were on deaths door literally , if you had carried on smoking you would not be here now.

Hi SmokyCat, I'm sorry you're having new problems. When we smoke the nicotine can mask some pre-existing conditions. As long as we smoke we may never find out about them and never seek medical help. It's quite a complicated situation. The weight issue will probably be sorted out when you get the Thyroid issues under control.
Please don't let yourself be 'tricked' into smoking again ,you won't solve any of your health problems and you will throw away all your hard work for your BRILLIANT quit.

Thank you for that! I actually did see my primary earlier this week. They took a ridiculous amount of blood to do some tests. I am still waiting on Thyroid results. Though I never have been one to take supplements I now am taking them daily. (I don't like it at all! But, will have to get used to it.) I figure it's the price we pay for smoking in the first place. HA HA! Hopefully by the end of next week the Thyroid issue will be sorted.
BTW - If anyone reading this finds that they can't sleep, try Melatonin. It seems to help me.

I think you will find many of us had similar thoughts early in our quit. Smoking masked hypothyroidism for me and yes, it took some time for me to feel human again as I was dealing with a couple of issues at the same time.
It takes time to heal, give yourself this time..you won’t regret it 👍👍🍀🍀
As already explained by our lovely members here, some health issues get masked by smoking. That is probably what's going on.. Going back to smoking might mask it again, but it will not cure it. Stay strong, u have done so well, 6 weeks is such a great achievement, getting through those initial days takes a lot of effort and you are past it now. M sure u dont want to have to go through that again.. Smoking may mask a few issues, but may land up causing some serious issues that can cost u much more than just a little weight gain. So stay strong and keep on this path, u are doing so well. More power to u..

Sounds all familiar and guess you’ve been told this already...
sore throats, cold sores , insomnia, eating like a pig , putting on the lbs , stomach problems , all so so familiar..
Most i would say say will ease off .. diet , I wish I’d addressed when I started to quit but didn’t ! Drink plenty of water and exercise ...
Your 2 months ,so your doing great , it’ll all be other things to moan about instead of smoking ...
My recent illness , diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and have read nicotine withdrawal can be a cause , bit if a grey area it studies do show people diagnosed have given up smoking , so a little disheartening as i almost lost my bowel through as it was a severe flare up ...
thankfully now in remission and on meds for life !!!
I’m 2 yrs smoke free this month so I class myself as a non smoker , I don’t ever think of them and was a smoker for a good 20 yrs , so I’m chuffed I got there .
I’m sure the body’s immune is suppressed with nicotine when your an established smoker , and when you stop and the blood flow starts to get oxygen again , then your open to lots of thing so 🙄
The numbness and tingles in the lower arms and fingers I got , around 3 months I think .. was horrible, and my gp dissed it , saying it had nothing to do with stopping smoking and was a trapped nerve .. what a useless twat he was .. and I told him that I’d read up on this , and one theory was the nerve endings and small blood vessels now getting fresh oxygenated blood once again after being subject to nicotine for years ..
all made sense , plus it went and all was fine ..
stay focused with your quit process , your doing very well and keep it up doing very well and before you know it , you’d forgotten about the horrible things ..😎👍
Dear SmokeyCat, it's normal to feel Crappy before you reap the benefits of quitting. Remember you have poisoned your body, and now it's fighting to get healthy. Have patience❗😉. You will feel better😊👍. Stay strong 💪 your doing a great job.🌷
hello smokycat 2 months is brilliant please keep it up . maybe speak to your GP about your thyroids & see what medication he can give you
