6 Days Smoke Free.

Have been smoke-free for 6 days. I have been smoking for the last 11 years and I just quit cold turkey. Man, this has been one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. The withdrawals are not easy. I have constant chest pains on the left side along with back/arm pain on the left side. I am scared that I might be having a heart attack. Is this normal? Apart from the obvious pains, I am struggling with mood swings, depression, constant thoughts about lighting a smoke and this fear that I might relapse.

Hi there Alackofcolour, Congratulations on deciding to quit smoking .When you first quit, your body will produce aches and pains. This is because

Your lungs and other organs are working hard to get rid of all the poisons from the cigarettes.

Your brain will still be adjusting , and still in the habit of sending signals , that you need

more nicotine.

If you can stick it out another few days and you should find things get easier.

If you are still worried , may be get checked out at your doctors to put your mind at ease.

If you wish we can add your name to our wall of winners, and assign you your progress badge.

Meanwhile have a good browse under the pinned posts, for relevant information.

:) xx

Thank you so much for the kind words. The wall of winners sounds like a great idea. I have been going through a lot pinned posts to gather more support and motivation.

Its been a fairly miserable day. And you're right my brain keeps sending these signals. I have reduced my coffee intake as that always triggers my craving for a smoke. Also, trying to break patterns and habits which make me think of cigarettes. But I'm hoping I don't give in to any temptations or bad days.

Thanks alot, Jillygirl! :)

Well done! Sounds like you are doing great. I went cold turkey too and was fine for the first couple of days but then started getting cravings. I bought a litre pack of niquitin mini lozenges which really take the edge off for me. Only using a few a day but really helped and I feel great now. Keep at it, well done.

Hello Alackofcolour, Cold Turkey is not for everyone, you might find it easier with a NRT aid such as a vape, lozenges as suggested by Benny or patches. Just remember we are always here to listen and support.

Aches and pains are the norm when quitting, smoking seems to mask a lot, but if you're in any doubt, get yourself checked at the doctors. Personally, I get pins and needles in my fingers...

Mood swings...yes, depression..yes... I dream of lighting up πŸ˜‚ what a sorry lot we are πŸ˜‚

Keep strong πŸ’ͺ🏻 through all of his. It is worth it in the end
