Hi Peeps

Am new to this as I have only just started my journey to get healthier. Am using patche's and spray but seem to still be wanting a ciggy every now and then. Could you tell me what motivation you have hd to help you through?.

Cheers

My motivation was and is knowing that if I carry on smoking my son will probably end up having to travel down from london once a week to visit me because if I carry on smoking I will eventually end up on oxygen and my dad died from emphysema 2 years this christmas and it honestly wasn't the nicest thing to see a fit man just waste away to nothing and he always told me to give up and it has taken nearly two years but I'm now not smoking for a month on Friday so you can do it sometimes you have to get through the days a minute an hour at a time but you can do it I am vaping as well which really has helped me and I was so pleased with myself the other night as I went for a meal with my son and came out of the resturant and realised when walking up the road I didn't even think about having a fag so you can do it sorry about the long winded reply good luck on your quit journey it is hard but will pay off in the long term remember nope

Glad we are still 3 week twins! Sorry to hear about your dad, I saw someone die from emphysema and it was terrible, I kept thinking he was the same age as me...

Then I had to go and visit his mum very difficult

Thank you at least we were all there when he died I do sometimes think though why didn't he give up so after seeing that I know I'm doing the right thing just hard when you feel worse than you did when you smoked

Hi Kevin and welcome to the quit family 😊

For me, I was told I had high cholesterol and the doc was going to put me on statins. I didn't fancy that so went out and stuck on a patch...... The rest, as they say, is history 😊😊

Even after 20 months I still get the odd moment when I think "I could really fancy a cig" but then I remind myself that it has over 4000 toxins in it and one of them is formaldehyde πŸ™πŸ˜’

Things to remember about smoking:

β€’It's expensive

β€’Makes you smell

β€’It doesn't help you in stressful situations (quite the opposite)

β€’causes premature aging

β€’your teeth could eventually fall out

β€’it kills you slowly

To name but a few......πŸ™

Start putting your cig money away and when you get a craving, think about what you are going to treat yourself to when you hit your first personal milestone....😊😊

You have made the first step to better health so keep this site close by and we will support you to keep walking πŸ‘πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸšπŸšπŸšπŸšπŸšπŸšπŸšπŸšπŸšπŸšπŸšπŸšπŸšπŸš

We all say NOPE ....Not One Puff Ever😊😊😊

Good luck Kevin!

Good morning Kevin β˜€οΈ My list is: women in my family have disabling strokes at young ages who smoke........ To me, that scared me to quit the cigarettes..... Thank GOD I stumbled on this site researching the chemicals added to tobacco.... I want to light up quite a lot but I don't .... I keep this site really close ❀️

You're going to enjoy being a non smoker xx

Hi Kevin,

Have you decided to quit already before your quit date of 22nd? If you have that's great you could be over the worst initial few days before Christmas.

To be honest my only motivation is to save money. I am aware of all the health benefits and agree that it is important to give up for Health reasons but then I chose to smoke for some years without worrying about my health so that will be an added bonus.

I have got an app on my phone which you can program to say how much you spent on Tabacco and how often you bought it so it tells me exactly how much I have saved. You can also put in various goals such as new iPhone Β£529, next years holiday Β£1250, Audi A1Β£17,000 and so on, I've even put my mortgage in there and a new kitchen and an Apple Watch!

So far it is telling me I have saved 10% of the cost of a new iPad, 9% of the cost of my new iPhone 6s which I've already bought but when it gets near 100% I can think I've got that money back from not smoking.

You might think it's a bit materialistic but you have to go with what works for you. I'm thinking about seeing exactly how much I save each month and putting that into a personal pension to pay for the extra years of life I'll now need to fund!

Good luck with your quit, what motivates you???

I know it's brilliant. U can backdate ur quit date as well to whenever ur date was. It's called quit it. It's on the iOS App Store you need to get the paid version to get the goal setting function but I think it was only 79p. Well worth it. πŸ˜ƒ

My motivation is my grandchildren coz i don't want to let them down, so anytime I wanted a cig I'd imagine their little faces and their little lungs too. I want to be around to see them grow up and they are far more important to me than a few puffs. And yes even now I get a longing for one BUT there's NO way I'm going to have one ever

There's an old saying.............."your health is your wealth" and it's soooo true.

NOPE🚭

Hi! My motivation to quit obviously wasn't too strong when I started because it took me nearly 3 years to achieve a final quit. On my 65th birthday I had some issues with the mental image of old ladies smoking (not a pretty sight), vague ideas of health benefits and pension time coming up fast and no money to smoke. The final quit was because I was so scared about up coming kidney surgery I stopped because smokers have issues with anaesthetic. When I came home, I joined this forum for support and encouragement.

Another motivation is a recent trip to the emergency department for bilateral pulmonary embolism - EVERY doctor you see has THAT LOOK when they ask about smoking!!! You feel so so humiliated and stupid to admit to 50 years of disgusting, self indulgent habit. I took one young doctor to task and said it's too late to worry about what is done, how about a "well done for quitting" I just got a raised eyebrow.

So if you want respect from your health professionals - QUIT and STAY QUIT

Ngaire

You've done amazingπŸ‘πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ so many times it's a health scare that wakes us up to stop the cigarettes ...... I know the fact that women who smoke in my family have strokes scared me into quitting ....... I always worried when I'd light up...... Now that anxiety isn't there and that's great because I have enough to worry about as we all do besides what damage cigarettes will do to us ........

Anyways take good care NgaireπŸŽ„
