A Smoker in denial............

Hello everyone! I was browsing for a great site to help me quit and I think I found it. I called myself a "smoker in denial" because I' ve always believed that as little as I smoke (about 3 cigs a day) that the habit wouldn't hurt me..........but now I'm not so sure. I've been smoking off and on for 20 years. For the last 2 weeks I have been wheezing. So much so that my doctor thought I had pnemonia. Chest xray was negative for pnemonia. She put me on antibiotic and mucinex to break up the congestion, but I am still wheezing..........But it's only for a couple of hours every morning.......Crazy, hoh. So, I am convinced it's the smoking and it really scares me. I am ready to quit! Any thoughts???

Hi Kseverance, it's lovely to meet you and a big welcome to quit support :)

As Kaprin says definitely go for it, it's a fantastic decision to make, especially for your health. With luck your wheeziness will disappear very quickly which will be very motivational for you and you will just feel better for not inhaling those deadly toxins on a daily basis! The choice is absolutely yours, but stopping smoking is a very good choice to make, and that is the same whether you smoke 3 or 30 cigarettes a day, it's exactly the same outcome, you take back control of your life again and kick Mr Nics butt!!!

So be strong and be positive and you really can do this! :) :) xxx

Excellent, that is actually my weapon of choice and it has been an absolute dream for me, the perfect back up! :) The only advice I would give you is that as a light smoker, you do not need the higher nic level liquids - so if poss go to an e-cig shop for some really good advice otherwise you could be inhaling more nicotine than you are used to and you don't want that!

It really helps you to get out of the "habit" of reaching for the cigarettes at certain times in the day, and once you get rid of the habit, you can start to eliminate the nicotine as well, as quickly or as slowly as you like! It's a win win win situation - Excellent! :D :D :D xx

I'm nearly 9 months cig free and used an ECig to help me quit.I'd been a smoker of around 12-15 cigs a day for 38 yrs !!! I just wish I'd succeeded earlier in quitting.Ecigs are the best invention ever.I have COPD and will have for the rest of my life, quit NOW,it isn't easy but stick close to the site and you'll be helped through the early days. I'm now nicotine free and the feeling you get from just knowing that you've kicked the horrible addiction is priceless.GOOD LUCK.Hugs H x

Wish I had woken up and given up after 20 years smoking. Just go for it, patches, ecig anything......just stop before you do yourself any more damage. Like Helen I have just been diagnosed with emphysema...(glad it is still quite mild) there are others on this site that have suffered much worse. I think it was Pinkizoom or ysd that said that giving up is the best gift you can give yourself.

Hi, You have certainly come to the right place, the people on here are sooooo supportive its like a huge extended family :D

As Chrissie says, it doesn't matter how many you smoke its the fact that you do..... go with whatever floats your boat but to be honest I think patches may actually be too strong for you... I think its probably a good idea to go and see an adviser.

Good luck and keep us posted -x-
