Of course you can we all make choices in life some are better than others, I made a choice to smoke over 40 years ago and now I am making a choice to quit after having a serious heart attack, we have just all got to be there for each other and help one another when we are having bad times, you can do this and I am only one of a number of lovely people on this site to help you do it, so keep strong and say no more x

Prepare, make a plan, then jump! It feels like that, the jump. I am going to do the jump on 12th. There'll be a lot of people jumping with me. I can't see them all, but it helps to know they'll be there. And I know all the people on here will be cheering me and all of us on. Take support where you can. Does it help you to know we're all in it together, just human, just trying? We can do it, and it probably won't be easy (understatement!?). But you'll never know if you don't try (in my case again! Been here before and it worked. I did it. Then relapsed. But , oh, how much better I remember feeling, physically, when I wasn't smoking. I want to be there again!)

Good morning Fairy, and a big warm welcome to this lovely quit support site :) :)

Like the others have said, of course you can quit, IF you really want too :) You have to sit yourself down and plan for your quit day, write down on a piece of paper why you want to quit :) so that you can read it back to yourself when you need to.

Are you going cold turkey, or are you going to use some form of NRT to help you ? Please think about it first, plan it, then you will be ready for your quit date :)

Hope to speak soon, Pete :)

Aup Jo, a big warm welcome to this quit support site and a big well done to you for getting to day 2 :) :)

I've used the chewing gum and had no probs :) Erm, you do know to just chew it a bit, and then sort of park it up on one side of your mouth, then when you need it again, just have another chew at it and so on :)

Maybe try a lesser dose one, or try the lozenges, I'm using them at the moment, the 2mg ones which arnt too strong :)

Enjoy your night out tonight, just try to keep focused on your quit eh, and when you say NO to a fag, you hold your head up high and feel proud of yourself :) :)

Take care now Jo, speak soon, Pete :)

Try the mini Niquitin 4mg mint, Brilliant !! I was a 30 a day person and these are amazing. They take away the craving within a couple of minutes and you just sit them inside your gum. These are the only things that have helped me and I have tried everything and it cost me a fortune. I hope this helps you :)) They are £8 for 3 containers of 20 tabs in each container from Tesco x

Not going to add anything to what others have said except to say that if I can get to 6 months (my 6 month anniversary tomorrow) then you can too.Don't for one minute think it's easy because it's not but if you're absolutely determined then you'll do it.I'm more than £600 better off that helps to keep me on the straight and narrow because that's cash in my pocket & not the treasury or the tobacco manufacturers. GOOD LUCK. Let us know how you get on.

Hi Fairyuser, We have all asked that very question, most of us have tried and failed at times, but you get to a point in your life when you know the only way to be a Healthier older person is to quit, It's amazing how good you feel as you count the weeks and months of quitting, Keep strong, You Can Do This. :-)

back in 2004 at 3.45 am I had my last fag and then quit until feb 2009. I regret starting again as i am now back to 60 a day. This morning I woke up with a severe chest pain and I am scared and want to stop again. The first time i used gum but I have tried gum again a couple of years ago and it did not seem strong enough to help. I remember the first time chewing gum hourly and that was hell but it worked. I am so mad with myself as I swore I would not get this way again.I also smoke other things which has added to my problem. Do the 'niquitin' spray things really reduce cravings in two minutes? although the cravings seem to drag on for ages and i actulaay had the shakes last time around?

Hi there caninecrazy,Sorry to hear you went back to smoking ,however you know you have quit once so its not impossible.I am not sure about the spray as I have only used the inhalator. If its ok with you I will put forward your query to Emjay our advisor, who will be able to help I will ask her to message you so when she does you will see a red number 1 on the envelope at the very top of the page. on the green bar. Meanwhile have a browse round the site you may find it helpful. :)

thank you Jilly I really appreciate it, I am so glad that I found this site. Its funny as I can identify with the smokers who have quit and see it from both sides. I really wish I could get to the best part without the suffering first!

Caninecrazy,

I quit using an ECig,have you thought about that.It helped me a heck of a lot in those first horrible few days. I'm just so sorry that you went back after all that time. With my ECig I had cravings but very few and not very often.Sometimes the thought of going through the nicotine withdrawal is worse than actually doing it.Please get some Nicotine replacement sorted and give it a go.A lot of the successful folk on here have used Ecigs. You know you can do it stay with us on here & maybe we can get you thru this.Hugs to you & try and stay positive.Helen
