Just got back from the doctors and the blood tests were fine apart from cholesterol which was up. So the theory of under active thyroid was wrong. They are now sending me for ECG and having a 24 hour Blood pressure monitor. But, the worst of it is a chest x ray. Now I know it's sensible and the likelihood is that everything will be fine but (and I know lots of you would feel the same) I can't help thinking I pushed my luck with smoking for too long.
Nobody tells you how rough giving up can feel physically. Hardly ever went to the doctors before quitting. I honestly think (hope) all the problems I have experienced is a result of stopping. My poor old body is working so hard to get better. Smoking - never again. I am NOT going through this again
So let's start planning the celebrations for when it comes back all clear.
Thanks ladies. It stuff like this that make this site worth it's weight in gold. Only other quitters would recognise this paranoia and not think the fears are either totally self obsessive or stupid. Look forward to celebrating.....
Main thing is try NOT to panic.I'm sure all will be well but as you rightly say us smokers did push our luck. I'm thinking of you and planning the happy dance for when everything is sorted. STAY POSITIVE. Helen x
1stly congrats for giving up smoking well done you dont panic its quite normal to feel like crap after giving up and have medical symptoms even depression I am on day 34 smoke free !!!! Longest I've gone without one for 20 years ( tried at least 20 times or more to quit in the past & all failures) This time I am staying a non smoker !!!! I am also experiencing lethargy feeling sooo tired am still taking Champix it could be the tabs am not sure I saw someone else said the same on here and now cant find who it was ! You stay strong Hunny and good luck x
It might have been me you saw talking about Champix, I didnt just feel tired on them, I think they messed my whole head up , i was beyond exhausted, had no inclination to do anything, it was an awful experience for me, and i stopped taking them after 3 weeks, i didnt start smoking again straight away either, it was about 10 months later, but i truly believe the problem was the champix stop the receptors in my brain wanting nicotine, which is brilliant, but it also stopped all the other receptors too, I felt depressed to be honest. A couple of other folk also had sim experiences on here, i think "sinfree" was one of them.
well done for 34 days smoke free, that is awesome... i am on ecig this time and only coming up for 2 weeks, but its a completely different experience for me this time, and dare i say it, not so bad at all !!

High hon, it's the drug that's causing the lethargy, lack of motivation etc, etc. Essentially that's what it's designed to do, I think they then discovered that a high proportion of people on this drug stopped smoking and trialed it for this purpose. Short term loss, long term gain. Congrats on 34 days, I'm only on 22. Good luck. xx
Thanks nivvynoo. Well done for day 34. I am not being mean, but I am glad I'm not the only one feeling like crap. All in it together eh? Sounds like the musketeers
Hi Rozi , Like the girls say you will be fine. At least your in the right frame of mind getting yourself better. Keep us all informed when you get those good results.
Hi jilly girl. I really appreciate your support. Of course it will be fine! Just being daft
40 yrs a smoker, 3 weeks given up. Know exactly what you mean about 'pushing our luck'. Fingers crossed and sending you good vibes for a happy result. x Keep up with the quittin it's worth it.
Hi Rozi. There's something about getting to a "certain" age and finally quitting before hopefully it's not too late - I think that's the majority of people on here the! You said it yourself, "smoked for 40 years and given up 3 weeks". It's early days for you and you are doing really well. Keep up the good work and see you again soon. Good luck, Andi.
I am 18, smoked for 2 and 3/4 years and finally quit five days ago. I coughed up a small amount of blood yesterday followed up by a lot of yellow phlegm.
My doctor thinks it's just a chest infection and sent me for a chest X-ray for today, I am petrified honestly.
Hi thatsassykid - a massive well done for stopping smoking - this is such a fantastic decision for you to make especially as you are so young - as a non smoker I can promise you that your whole life is going to be so different and a so much better than if you had continued to smoke so I really respect you and applaud you for doing this!
I have 18 and 21 year old daughters myself and although I think my eldest did smoke a bit when she went to uni, I don't think it lasted long, and my 18 year would never smoke, she's such a fitness freak! So that obviously pleases me, plus she hated me smoking and did worry about me so much.
They have both also experienced the battles I've had with stopping smoking over the years and I've begged them not to follow my example because I would hate for them to go through both the horror of smoking and giving it up!
As a mother I want to say to you don't worry about the test. Worry is one of those emotions which doesn't actually achieve anything - plus your doctor is only being thorough which is a good thing, and the fact that you have only experienced this symptom once is also good!
Are you using an e-cig or anything to help you with stopping? However you are doing it stay positive, get through the stop smoking process and never look back. It might not be easy at times, but it will never be as hard as a life time spent smoking, I promise you that. Your example might even inspire other young people to do the same!
Take care and let us know how you get on, and if you are having a bad day please get back on here because so many people who are going through the same thing will definitely support and help you through it!
I am quitting cold turkey, today is my 6th day. I haven't really been craving much at all honestly so I'm glad
I got the X-ray done yesterday and I'm going to the doctor for my results today. I don't see any masses on the picture so I'm not too worried at the moment, but that bit of fear is still there.
Wow, where are you? 12.34 am (so the middle of the night) you are either 8 hours in front of me (in the UK) or 14 hours behind. Hm you can't be 14 hours behind so I'm guessing somewhere like.....actually I can't work it out, is it possibly somewhere off New Zealand? Tell me if I'm close?
Really? I thought it was a bigger time difference than that, although admit it, I wasn't far off the mark the first time! ha ha ha
Don't worry. You're young and have made the best decision you will ever make. There are lots of nasty side effects when you stop and the doctor is being thorough. I'm sure you will be fine but just remember how you feel now and that should put you off ever lighting up again. Good luck with the xray
