Am I cheating

I'm using the e-fags right now. I've tried all the other potions now, short of putting my head in a bucket. Someone please tell me these things are ok on the way to kicking the fags into touch

Hi David , First of all welcome to quit support. There are one or two members who have tried the e cig, and been okay with it. Emjay or Eye (Eileen) are our community support advisors and will be only too willing to help you.

I am sorry I cant advise anymore as I used the inhalator, to help me quit. I have been quit for nearly 17 months now after smoking for 40 odd years. So it can be done. If you browse through the questions sections you may find some posts regarding e-cigs. Meanwhile stay positive. Emjay will probably be in touch tonight or tomorrow. :)

I will search through the posts to see if I can find anything for you. :)

Have a think about your previous stop attempts and what it was that caused you to start again. Was it something practical like it was the wrong time? Was it something emotional which you had to deal with and your resolve left you? Was it something like a smoker offering you a cigarette when your guard was down?

Once you have thought about that we can help you find a way through this time.

We all look forward to supporting you to become smokefree, you can ask advice, have a rant or just a giggle.

Hi David-the-chimney :D

Congratulations on reaching your first week without lighting up and smoking a regular cigarette, you are doing great :D

Some great advice and thoughts already given above :-)

With regards to using the e-cigarette - Please remember that this product is still under review, and although there are quite a few of our members who have already stopped smoking through using one of the many different types of e-cigarettes, because they are not regulated, then we cannot recommend it as a safe-to-use-product. We will continue to provide you with any information as we find it though.

Can I just ask you to consider whether or not you are wanting to use the e-cigarette to eventually stop smoking, to help you to cut down the amount you smoke or use it just to replace smoking?

Quit Support tries to support all our members in their efforts to quit or reduce their nicotine intake. We do not support, advertise or encourage the use of specific products and would always encourage our members to eventually become free of nicotine use completely.

I don't think that you are cheating, you are just trying to work out in your mind the easiest way around this stopping smoking malarkey! :-)

Nobody says that it is easy, but those that master it do say that it is worth it ;-)

We can support you on your journey and I am sure there are other members who will be more than happy to share their experiences with you.

Remember, stopping smoking is the single most important thing you can do to improve your health :-)

Thank you for your support and advice. I would like to eventually give the fags up completely, but feel to try to look that far ahead may lead to failure ...

Hi David

Firstly may I say that I first tried to give up in Feb. this year with the E-Cig and managed quite well with no cigarettes, however after 3 weeks I developed Pneumonia and was admitted to hospital for a few days and the Medics could not understand how I caught it as I had the pneumonia jab a couple of years ago along with the flu jab.

Then a couple of months ago determined not to be beaten I went to my local NHS smoking clinic, and to cut a long story short I am in my 10th week with the support of patches and one other product which I chose as the inhalator. These consultations are on a one to one basis and I personally have found to be very helpful with 2 weekly visits.

I urge you please, please do not use the e-cig as they are not regulated. My case could indeed be coincidental but I would not take the chance again.

Anyway on that note good luck I'm sure anyone can do it if I can after 40 plus years
