A study about dementia, sorting inflammatory foods vs anti-inflammatory. I'm always confused about this topic because people have such wildly differing beliefs about diet in PMR. (I'm not a believer) The other thing, Jack Cush at Rheum Now said that alcohol is anti-inflammatory in one of his podcasts, I had no idea. Cheers!
The only thing we say here about diet and PMR/GCA is actually more about diet and pred.
Pred triggers the liver to release random spikes of glucose into the blood, If these spikes are superimposed on an already carb-rich diet it can increase the average blood glucose level as measured by the Hba1c considerably. You can't influence the release of these random spikes of glucose - but you can exert some control over the contribution made by dietary carbs. It so happens sugar and simple carbs are regarded as pro-inflammatory and many find that also helps their symptoms. Psychologically it also helps by providing an area where you can exert some control and usually see a result.
But otherwise - some people find certain foods don't help. others find others are a problem. It is a very individual thing.
My problem now is weight loss, just hit 99#. (Newly diagnosed diverticulitis which is unrelenting) Lots of us have diabetes, cutting carbs probably makes us all feel better.
Very happy to hear that alcohol and caffeine are anti-inflammatory! I love my glass of wine with dinner and a latte as soon as I arise! I haven't found that diet makes a difference, though I have a pretty healthy diet overall.
I think getting a balanced diet is the most important. Foods are chemicals - they interact with each other as well as with us, so getting as wide a variety has got to be good and hopefully then most of the interactions will be more positive than bad. I like Tim Spectre's idea of 30 different plants over a week.
