Trying to find best vitamin K2 supplement. I can’t take calcium but lots of dairy and take D3 on its own daily. I take methotrexate, steroids and other meds so I don’t want the strongest K2 but one I can absorb without a problem.
I have been on risedronate for two years but dexa scan had not improved. I try and walk a little and have stairs in house. Thank you. J

Yes I think you are right. Maybe put them in a hat and pick as I know everyone will be taking what suits them. I should have started a while ago. Grrr. 😀
I have been trying but always end up sore. I am thinner now than I have ever been which is not good. I have some small weights. (Under the all curtains at the moment!). Also I have just been a quick walk…. to buy a bit of chocolate 😳
I have had one of those days, sorting. taxi for mammogram, mri for lump on arm, new appointment for earring aid moulds (third lot). and utilities bill. Phew, I really needed chocolate.
You could go to the supermarket and buy lots of chocolate and carry it home using the shopping bags as weights. Then eat all the chocolate to put on weight!!
Don’t tempt me. I had a large lint dark chocolate with hazelnuts delivered last week for when family came on Sunday. I had eaten the lot by 2pm Saturday 😵💫😩 I called it lunch and just had fish and veg for tea.
Very naughty but OH so nice. I blame tablets for breast cancer and loneliness. It has always been a struggle and sometimes it s worth it but very greeeeeedy. 🤗
You are right and it necessary for our health and the planet to eat a plant based diet. Also my local shop is further up the hill where I live so the walk is good for my bones and mental health of course. It is becoming very important for me to have a daily treat as I don’t drink. 😉 Now where are my walking shoes and stick.. oh dear it is only early so must wait a while at least until after breakfast.
I am trying to leave 12 hours between meals today as Michael Moseley suggests. I think he spends his time thinking up health ideas for us all to worry about. I am definitely not doing the cold shower one. He is an insomniac and an hypochondriac I think, but a nice fellow but enough is enough. J 🌸
I gather that the optimum intermittent fasting approach for over 65s is 24/0 which totally confused me until it dawned on me that it meant eating on alternate days!!! I keep meaning to try it - after all, it is not that difficult really, just choose one lovely meal one evening, nothing until the next evening and then a day eating other lovely food.
Only difficulty for you would be the chocolate on alternate days - you'd have to delay until dessert after dinner ...
I wish you luck with that PMR pro. 😵💫. I struggle with a four hour gap between meals, and now only 55kg and 5ft 7ins tall I would need my chocolate to keep me perpendicular !! Massive dizzy spells and tinnitus some weeks ago I am having to be careful as I can’t risk a fall.
Hopefully you won’t have to make this decision. Doctors in uk not keen on unnecessary surgery unless you have certain genes. Mine was small so hopefully I will be ok., but after the nightmare we had with John and three different cancers …… J
Me too… also, I have to eat yoghurt as a minimum for breakfast every day to cope with the steroids… can’t miss this really, so can’t accommodate the gap
why are you wanting to not eat for 12 hours. I think that's silly surely your blood sugar levels will go weird. The most I go without food is 6 hours and that's only on the 3 days I work. by lunch time I feel like I could eat a horse after 12 hours I'd want to eat the whole stable!
It's the time restricted eating concept and it does work in several situations to improve blood levels and works in weight loss. 12 hours isn't much of a trial - you sleep for 8 of them!! And when you try it it does improve blood sugar control - and that also minimises the massive hunger pangs,
Trying to not go back to pre diabetic but still have treats as I don’t want to loose weight or increase cholesterol levels. What I need now is a chip butty on good White bread. mmmmm
Don't feel guilty for eating chocolate. it sounds like life is really tough at the moment, you are fighting cancer!! I work in a supermarket and every day walk past the easter eggs. I had a bad day so decided to buy a small £1.25 cadbury mini egg as a treat. I bought one for my 80 year old mother as well and stopped off for a cup of tea on the way home after work. I thought I'd be good and only eat half but like you I finished the lot. I too called it lunch and yes it was a lovely lunch. I need calcium and iron and chocolate has both these.
I grew up eating hot cross buns on Good Friday and that is still when I eat them. I like tradition! They are already on sale here and in various flavours. No!
Pro, take a seat before reading further - raspberry and white chocolate, salted caramel, cheese, jalapeño and cheese, apple and cinnamon, fairy bread with a packet of hundreds and thousands to sprinkle, pizza shapes flavour. Pizza shapes are savoury crackers in Aus. 😱
I'm sure they taste "fun" - but they are NOT HCBs. Call them something else and I could approve ... Our bakery, Gatterer, calls their variations on traditional filled doughnuts for Carneval Grapfen instead of Krapfen.
lots of other things going on but hopefully another all clear with breast cancer. I have just rung for mri on lump on arm, they are sure it is benign. I was 23 in the queue… 7.15 pm in early April. Too tired to fetch choc today so stewed blueberries and strawberries for treat with yogurt. Must not grumble as it is lovely. Hope your Mum loved hers. J
If you are nearly 80, then you should treat yourself. My mum won't treat herself that's why I do it. Enjoy an Easter egg especially at Easter. All the best.
Not sure there is any way to say if one is better than another except trying if a brand suits you.
Risendronate and other bisphosphonates are not necessarily to INCREASE bone mineral density, they are to prevent it deteriorating further and even that is not guaranteed. There is thought to be an effect that even if BMD doesn't increase, the quality of bone improves in the short term and after a few months it is less likely to break, If the desire is to increase bone density, then Prolia/denosumab or teriparitide/Forteo would be used. There is another monoclonal antibody drug I think but not sure what it is called.
Thank you PMRpro. I had it in my head that it increased the bone density. I only had to start two years ago so hopefully if I try a bit harder I will hopefully stay in osteopenia range.
Going to buy one of the recommended K2 Mk7 vitamins and then doing the best I can. I have dropped below pre diabetic range and blood pressure ok so all good. Now where did I put my brain. 🤗
I can attest to what PMRPro has said. I have been taking Prolia since Feb 2018 and my bone density has gone from severe osteoporosis back to osteopenia in one hip. The other hip and spine have also improved considerably but still osteoporosis. I do take D3/K2 Mk7 in one tablet, not separately but had to stop the calcium 12 months ago, prior to that I took that daily as well. The brand is basically irrelevant, throw a dart and pick one.
I take K2 with MK7, whichever is cheapest at the time. But I actually thought that some people believe it may prevent the extra calcium in supplements from going to the wrong place, eg bladder rather than bones.
That is what I understand as well. I mentioned above that I had to stop the calcium supplements (I’m also on bi annual Prolia, and was at one time on meth, and steroids, not all at the same time though)) and that was because my bloods spiked in calcium, even though I was also taking D3/k27, and I now have borderline hyper parathyroidism. (One parathyroid is enlarged). My understanding is that the parathyroid helps direct the calcium to where it has to go and because I was …”.overindulging” ….with both Prolia and tabs, it somewhat malfunctioned. Not sure if the D3/k2 was doing its job, but I’ve stayed on that while I’m on Prolia. Just off the supplement calcium.
I take oral D plus K drops once a day on my tongue. It apparently mimics the chemical our body produced and is absorbed better. It’s called Therapure/ My Liposomal D+K.
I use the BetterYou Vitamin D3 / K2 M-7 oral spray. The product is well quality tested , produced in the UK and the doses and variants of the vitamins are in line with medical research guidelines.
I take it after the fattiest meal of the day , although it is mainly absorbed via the mouth so a larger amount of the actually dose can be metabolised by people whom may have digestive problems.
I thought I might try oral drops as recommended earlier but I also have oral lichen plants at times so will have to try with caution. I have heard Better You are good company so will check them out.
I buy Vit D +K2 from British Health Supplements. I find their products excellent. I also get B12, Biotin and Collagen from them. You can find them online.
I have thought of looking at Biotin etc as my hair has suddenly become very thin. It looks like I will have to knuckle down and get this sorted. Thanks for ideas. J
I like Together Health or Nature’s Best. I think you have to decide the daily amount you want to aim for and find one that fits. They are very variable.
I have the products from Better You , great company. They have many different vitamins in oral spray form, my favourite is Vit D3 with K, easily absorbed straight into the bloodstream, which is why I tried them in the first place. ( I had absorption issues). Holland and Barratt stock some of the products. Failing that get them straight from Better You direct. A lot easier to take than tablet form and has a fresh peppermint taste.
Hi there, for some reason I can't tolerate K2 supplements so I have goat's kefir instead which I take three times a day. It contains K2. It's also very good to line your tummy before taking your daily pred dose.
I have been using the Swanson brand for years. Very pleased. You can order direct from Swanson or on Amazon, another good brand would be Puritan's Pride
I'm new here but post regarding vit D &k don't seem to mention that these vits work better in combo with magnesium. There are eight types and doses are dependent on age and health conditions but the average is about 300mg daily. You might have a look at Betteryou. com which provides a full rundown on each form and how it works. Citrate form tends to have laxative effects so beware that one.
