Surgery for fallopian tubes removal

Hi Has anyone had fallopian tubes removed but ovaries and uterus left intact? I've been advised to have this surgery through keyhole , ct scan shows abscesses in tubes. Although six months ago another scN showed abscess near uterus and one doctor mentioned hysterectomy. The doctor I saw this morning seemed confused by that and said its only tubes that need removing. I'm worried as I've never had surgery and worried surgery will lead to other complications or that I'll wake up from surgery and find they've removed something other than the tubes. I know I'm probably being over anxious. Also worried about how much time il have to take off work with surgery and any side affects from having tubes removed. I'm not planning on having any more children.

Hi there, I’ve had that surgery; bilateral salapingectomy. For the same reason, I had an extremely painful abscess, which was treated initially with IV antibiotics in hospital. Followed my 18 months plus of repeat infections, constant pain and numerous scans and courses of antibiotics. I wish they’d just done the surgery at the time!

Recovery took longer than it should have done… possibly due to weight gain whilst I had been less mobile due to pain. It should take 6-12 weeks. I was feeling better in 6-12 months rather than weeks. If it’s keyhole; which mine wasn’t, it should be much sooner!! I know women who had similar to me via key, back to work the next week! Good luck with your decision and your health!

Thank you ! Mine's been the same - repeated episodes with iv antibiotics , not sure why drainage wasn't mentioned early on or since first episode, as some women I've met said their abscess was drained when antibiotics didn't work. Glad your surgery was successful and you've not had any further issues with the abscess , it's reassuring to know :) think I'm going to opt in to have the tubes removed - I'm fed up with the pain affecting usual routine and work.

I'm a mum of two teenagers too! :)

Take care

I’ve had both fallopian tubes removed at age 60 via a laparoscopy. I asked the gynaecologist to leave my uterus and ovaries intact.

After surgery, I couldn’t bath for a week but a brief shower was okay( due to stitches )

It took about a month of rest to recover from the procedure.

I know nothing about keyhole surgery but the lady above said she had success so that’s a positive. Good luck.

Thank you, that's reassuring to hear- im glad your surgery went well 😊 I'm thinking of doing the same and asking them to leave ovaries and uterus in , and only giving consent for the tubes to be removed. I've never had surgery before so feel bit anxious about being put to sleep and not knowing what's happened till you wake again

Try not to worry. It just causes more stress. Make sure you get an ‘Informed Consent’. The doctor must sign his/ her name that they won’t remove your ovaries or uterus. Good luck.
