I had a vaginal ring fitted in august. At times I could feel near enterence of vagina. I would push back into place. The last week or 2 I’ve had a bit of a door. Today went I went to wee I wiped blood. I have now taken it out. My question is should I see the dr incase of infection?

Hi Holycow2,

I'd go to A&E if I were you. Sounds like an emergency. First time it moved proved something isn't right, incorrect fitting or positioning. In addition you may have an infection building up each time you pushed it back in place. Sounds horrific to me and can't believe you've had to go through this. Dont waste time contacting your Gp, just go straight to A&E. Bring whatever evidence you can with you asap. Don't wait for anymore replies, just go now! Please let us know how you get on. All the best 😍

Hi Holycow2, not necessarily an infection. It could be that your pessary has rubbed the wall of your vagina and caused a slight bleed. If that is the case leaving it out for a week or so is recommended.

Hi, so I took it out yesterday and now there is only a very very slight smell if any. It’s back to normal discharge and no blood. I have the awful heavy feeling down there that I had before only worse now. When could I have a new one fitted do you think? Also I was prescribed 2 sizes. The dr fitted the smallest one but I could feel it at the entrance of my vagina at times. Would the larger one be better? Should they move about at all

Pessaries are managed by the practice nurse, within my Drs practice. They don’t recommend self management. I have had one for about 1O year, it took a couple of goes to get the correct size. Ideally you should return to your Dr to make sure of the reason. They can prescribe an oestrogen cream that would help to strengthen your vaginal walls. There is a lot of trial and error when you first have a pessary. Good luck.

Hi there l have had a pessary for a couple of years. It does take a couple of tries to get best fit. It stops 90% of my dragging lump feelings. They can move sometimes and it is correct to push it back into place as long as you push it to the correct place. I had 64mm ring first now 70mm which seems to suit me better. Opening your bowels can move a pessary especially if you strain. Also staying on your feet a long time or anything like pulling definitely avoid jumping. My husband has put my smaller pessary in several times its easier than me doing it. You fold them to do it. I wouldn't have thrown it away. They are sometimes hard to obtain. There are numerous you tube videos about them and correct fitting. Mine is my flexible friend after all it helps me live my life. Oh l insert a estradiol tablet twice weekly to help vaginal walls too. I dont know why you had bleeding definitely tell dr that happened. Good luck to you.

Hello! Thank you for your reply. I have a spare one at home and also a bigger one. Bit by used. I have an appointment at the Drs Monday. Was very strange as tge bleeding stopped after I took it out and does not appear to be an odour now either. I’m hoping the Dr will check for infection and maybe be able to put one in for me. Really struggle to open kegs wide enough as have severe arthritis of him which having hip replacement on 5th December so maybe best put in before?
