Gynaecological / pelvic exam pain ?

I have a gynaecological exam coming up but I also have likely pudendal neuralgia and do have vulvodynia so I’m terrified that this is going to hurt terribly. Are there anyone who is willing to let me know if I should be as fearful of pain as I am? Should I take extra pain medication?

Sorry to say, it probably will hurt some. Do breathing exercises, they help. I took a little extra for these visits. I recommend pulsed radiofrequency ablation if you positively have pudendal neuralgia. I have tried so many things. The interstim worked excellently for two years and then stopped working. The first procedure they gave me provided 100% relief. After that, it has stayed at about 90%. They are given to me every 6 months. Some people are good for 2 years. Learn everything you can about your issues and the anatomy associated with your pain, it really helps the doctors help you.

I pray you find and receive the help you need.

I agree with breathing exercises! I like to do box breathing (inhale for 4 secs, hold 4 secs, exhale for 4 secs, hold for 4 secs) or 4-7-8 breathing (inhale for 4 secs, hold for 7 secs, inhale for 8 secs). Communicate with the provider who is examining you: when we are scared/ tense we grip our pelvic floors, so the kindest thing you can do for yourself is to breathe and know that it will be over quickly. Sending love!
