Fibroid has grown...likely treatment?

Hi

I had a scan today after some abnormal bleeding. I have PCOS & never get heavy periods but last few months i've had no period until I was prescribed Folic Acid to take as I was lacking in folate. Since then my period came back but lighter than usual. My last 2 have been very light & a bit start stop & i've been bleeding longer than my usual 7 days. My latest one also came a week early (which is odd for me as i'm never on time & usually get them late or skip one).

Anyway i had a scan today & was told the fibroid i have has grown which is making me worry like mad. I'm 34 so thinking about kids at some point & i'm terrified of surgery having had a traumatic time re an ovarian cyst about 4 years ago.

Any advice about what i may expect would help as i'm currently freaking out and my GP has flatly told me the Folic Acid isn't to blame despite this only happening after I started taking it :(

Hi, l too have PCO and two small fibroids but l am 51 when l last went to the hospital they just told me that l was peri menopausal and basically to go away and monitor things. I am obviously a lot older than you but my suggestion would be to stop taking the Folic Acid and see if it does make any difference and you will then have your answer and you can go back to them with your findings. Good luck.

Hi,

Please consult with your GP before stopping the folic acid. Deficiencies of any vitamin or mineral need to be corrected. With some vitamins if you become severely deficient some of the effects become non reversible even when the deficiency isn’t corrected. I’m currently being treated for a vitamin B12 deficiency. It’s unlikely that the folic acid has caused the side effects you have mentioned. Fibroids sometimes go through periods of growth even when they have been previously remained the same size for months or years. Please please don’t ignore your deficiency
